Ok LZ I get it, it’s not your type of vacation. Disney is where it’s at…blah blah blah
You guys totally miscontrued my original point and are just running off with it now. It’s not even worth debating with you.
My original point. If you’re going to spend the money to go to Disney, you could spend the same in one year and have the opportunity to travel to different places, more often.
A lot of my vacations involve crashing with friends, random people I meet, tents, etc. To be fair a few of the trips to SE Asia were sponsored There is a lot of fun to be had out there that doesn’t cost any money. Why rent a cabin in the Adirondacks when you can hike in and camp? I get having kids and a woman involved usually makes everything way more expensive. I don’t want to turn it into a vacation debate thread, I would just really have a hard time coughing up that kind of loot for something so intangible, but a dollar is worth different things to every person.
This whole thing is pointless anyways since the OP stated he wants to go to Disney in memory of his mother in law. This isn’t just about going to Disney vs. somewhere else.
And any male adult knows that Disney isn’t really that fun for them outside of the enjoyment of their child. When I was there, I was glad to be with my family and watch my niece have the time of her life, but that’s really the end of my enjoyment. The rides aren’t that good sans 2 or 3 coasters. I was exhausted from the walking, navigating the park map, waiting in lines, etc… But the value here is your child’s enjoyment and experience. That’s worth something.
You were adding factual information, but then resorted to the typical LZ debate that usually happens when someone disagrees with you or in this case, you disagree with them. I never said you were wrong, but you said I was. It’s cool, I don’t need you to ok it, but there were others here that agreed with me and I was able to offer advice to.
Again, I wasn’t criticizing your decision even a little, my main point is I’m just surprised at how expensive the trip to Disney was. It’s such a glaring contrast to the type of vacation I take, which is often LESS expensive than everyday life for me.
Here is a little more advice/experience… One trip to Disney we tried to save some money by Staying at the Caribbean resort. By the end of 5 days I estimated that we wasted a total of over 11 hours using the bus. You have to walk to the bus, wait for the bus, stop at every other stop on the route, walk from the bus at Disney. Then do all of that in reverse at the end of a long day. FYI: The Caribbean bus stop is the farthest down at the park so at the end of the day you have to drag your exhausted kid another 1/4 mile and then wait in line AGAIN.
I hate public transportation. (snob)
Edit: One night we went to the Luau and from the time we shut the hotel door to the time we actually got to the Luau at The Polynesian Resort it took 1.5 hours.
Pro-tip… I almost snapped when I had to give them my thumb print. WTF is that?!? Imagine me in that situation, my wife was a bit upset at me and my questions.
I’ll give Disney credit, they’ve got generation after generation thinking that if you take your kids to some other park and save $4000 doing it you’ve somehow damaged them for life.
I stayed there once with the family and it was alright, it was nice being with family and all… But the shuttle was long trips back and forth that I did not enjoy one bit.
My buddy is a die hard camper and has gone through numerous models. I can tell you # 1 with a good degree of certainty that my wife would not be happy with anything of the tow behind variety as it doesn’t have a full laundry with full size machinery. # 2: Same buddy has tried to convince me for years I need one. Since I barely have enough time to go on one vacation, I simply don’t have time to use / enjoy any type of camping vehicle, and I do like camping. We rent a cabin with their group whenever possible.
Future thread note: I do not need this type of information to aid in my decision.
Already covered. I am planning on wearing my MM speedo’s with my name on the front with “PINK” on the ass cheeks. Photo ops will be endless.
While I’m not huge on “apping” the shit out of some things, not waiting in lines comes with a certain appeal.
Since we’ve never really been on a “big” vacation, it’s something I don’t plan on doing too often, if ever again. We went to Cedar Point a couple years ago and Darien almost every year but now he’s tall enough to go on the vomit grade fun rides and I think Disney is going to have something a little nastier than the Viper…I hope.
Yes. I don’t want to tow around a camper with one of those vinyl “in memory of…” stickers plastered in the back window.
I sort of feared this would take off fast…and branch off into other discussions.
I was to Disney when I was around 13-14 and remember being totally content to stay at the hotel pool. I do also remember the oppressive humidity was a big reason for that, of which I am still not a fan. I hope to be able to work this into a “Buffalonian” weather forecast to keep from melting.
I about pissed myself when I read this but it was quickly replaced with a feeling of overwhelming terror that I never considered Newman might actually have offspring. (INSERT PHOTOSHOPPED NEWMAN PIC HERE)
Modding any Honda is an automatic waste of money.
My son doesn’t love Disney more than life itself but I’m hoping they have some cool stuff there that he can marvel over. I hope it’ll take his focus off his Mindcraft video game.
