I contacted A.S.S about 2 weeks ago looking to have some exhaust work done to my TBSS. I used their website to send them an email and within an hour I had a response back from Darryl who sounded very enthused and eager to help me out. I explained to him what I was looking to have done and he said it wouldn’t be a problem at all and to swing by the next day to show him exactly what I had in mind.
What i requested to have done was to remove the current flowmaster super 44 muffler and replace it with a new spintech muffler which is full 304 stainless(no junk aluminized steel that rots out like the flowmaster…pic below). The muffler I purchased from spintech has a 4x10x20" case and is the quietest muffler they make. Similar to a flowmaster 70 series big block sound but with way better flow capabilities. In addition to cutting out the old muffler and re-welding the new one in I wanted to add a nice electric cutout before the muffler so i could still have the truck loud at my convenience with the flip of a switch.
I met Darryl that next day along with Harold and some of the other guys working at A.S.S. I must say that everyone who works there are some of the most down to earth, laid back people I have ever met. Darryl and Harold really run a top notch shop over there. Its really great to have something like this so close by for us. Anyhow i scheduled my appt for the coming up monday and eagerly awaited that morning. I hung out with Darryl the whole time while he worked on my truck, helping out as much as I could. I really enjoyed being able to see the whole process from start to finish and as well as give a helping hand where I could. I had a great time shooting the shit with Darryl while we worked on the truck, he’s such an awesome guy and talking with him I felt like we were old buddies. Anyhow the muffler job which we thought was going to take an hour or two ended up being much more complicated than we anticipated. But thats because Darryl was taking the time to make sure everything was done right the first time which obviously didn’t bother me one bit.
For the most part the install went great and everything was working with us until we went to install the control module box for the electric cutout. After getting it all wired up and trying to open the cutout we got nothing. After checking and rechecking all our connections Darryl finally opened up the control module box and saw some contacts on the board were fried. That’s what i get for buying something used. My fault there. So nothing much we could do at that point. I contacted the company and they warrantied the control box and were going to send me a new one right away. So i packed up my stuff and left for that day. Great thing is that the job took 6 hours and Darryl only charged for 5 and on top of that Darryl said when I got the new control box to just come on in and he would install it FREE of charge. I received the new box a week later and headed back to A.S.S. to get it all buttoned up. This time around it worked! And Darryl did an awesome job wiring everything up. We had a lot of wire extending to do on the harness and Darryl did an outstanding job with it. As a bonus he even gave me a ride that day in his badass 67 camaro when we had to head to Lowes to grab some bolts. After we buttoned her all up i had a NYS inspection done as well. Darryl and Harold then hooked me up with a free A.S.S. decal which we slapped on my windshield and is obviously good for another 5hp!
The truck is looking, sounding, and running great now. It sounds like a beast at WOT with the cutout open. I can’t wait for later this summer to get longtube headers and a catless y pipe installed. A funny thing is that the new muffler i put on was supposed to be the quietest muffler the company makes and after we started her up for the first time it sounded almost identical to my flowmaster lol. Although it does quiet down a lot at cruising speeds so thats good.
All in all i had a great time over at A.S.S. and a top notch experience. I am overly satisfied with all the work performed by the A.S.S. team and I would not hesitate one bit to send anyone in need of work to them. Thanks again everyone at A.S.S for all the help and I hope to see you soon with some more upgrades!
