so what’d you order a vnt 17? You know what REALLY pisses me off??? The fact that the VNT15 is regular journal bearing Garrett turbo with an adjustable exhaust housing and Garrett won’t sell a rebuild for it like they do for EVERY OTHER single god damn Garrett turbo EVER. WTFBBQ. Assuming the wheel and shaft are ok, these are completely rebuild able if Garrett would let the parts out of the door. fucking dicks.

so were the sticks and tune just too much for it? What boost was it seeing when it came apart?

A runaway can just be a blown seal. It doesn’t take much.

i feel like when the intake was clogged up it was just taking life off it… just a chip and nozzles are pushing it but not to the tune of blowing the turbo in 2k of my driving…

it was at about 24-26psi but setlling down to 22ish… alot becaue i haven’t adjusted the actuator but whatever… but it should be around 20~

anyways im just gonna buy a new center section ( everything minus the vanes and manifold/hotside) for 250… if you wanna know pm me and i’ll tell you where im getting it from…

hopefully i hear back tommorrow because i want to fix it as fast as possible

as far as damage goes, the shaft probably snapped in half… actually almost postive, i’ll check it in a bit since the car is home and in my garage now.

they sold it because the intake was plugged up and the mechanic said the turbo was shit… which it wasn’t at the time

ehh about 20 is the safe limit with a 22 spike, but the spike was a bit higher… im gonna adjust the actuator and put a boost valve on it when i put the new turbo. hopefully i’ll have it off tommorrow but will take the inlet off in a minute when i finish this outline for class.

btw, my mk2 tdi ran 24-26 psi for 10k miles before it popped… when i got it, it had in and out play already so it was already shot LOL and still went another 10k!!!

its really not bad. it can actually merge into traffic now. im not afraid ill get smashed into. i still have stock program on it too. seems to be getting high 40s or so, and i boot it alot. not bad for 502s and an 11mm pump.

i need to figure out a sensible mod path for my TDI. I REALLY like this car, drives real nice. Going to make a thread so I don’t clutter up petards thread.
