so. I bought my ‘new’ truck from Mike Smith Buick/Pontiac/GMC in Lockport and picked it up last thursday. I got in the truck to leave, and as soon as i did, it was clearly obvious that they did not detail the truck at all, as it was filthy inside and out (could have written my name in the dirt on the dash). i half shrugged it off because i was gonna clean it anyway over the weekend just because. When i started the truck to leave, there was NO gas in it. and when i say “no gas,” i meant the gas light was on and the needle was past E. i was now very upset. I did not have time to go back and address these issues at the time because I had to be downtown for something and i was already running late because they couldnt find the keys to the truck when i got there.
Later, I noticed the passenger front headlight was cracked. It wasnt like that when I test drove the truck. After asking around at my work, I found out that a vehicle will not pass NYS inspection with a cracked light. I called Mike Smith GMC and spoke to the used car manager, who I very politely explained to that I, or anyone else in my family has never bought a car (new or used) where the dealer does not give you a full tank of gas. I also explained to him that the truck should not have passed inspection with the headlight the way it was, and clearly the truck was inspected before delivery, so it wrongfully passed. I also mentioned something about it not being cleaned when i got it, but by that point i had cleaned it up myself and was over it. The used car manager said “Oh, well we dont fill gas tanks. we just give you enough to drive around a little bit.” I asked how far he expected me to get with the fuel computer telling me i had <1 mile to go before i ran out of gas, and after just spending $xx,xxx on a truck, spending $70 of my own money to fill the tank did not sit kindly with me. He basically told me there was nothing they would do for me in terms of fixing the headlight, or filling my gas tank. So today i filed a complaint with the DMV about them wrongfully inspecting the vehicle and then refusing to do anything about it. The person from the DMV said to me “they can lose their inspection license for this, are you sure you want to file this complaint?” “yes.”
You’re a fucking cry baby shit head. Why would they give you a full tank of gas? I wouldn’t want you around my dealership any longer than needed, and they probably felt the same way…filling up your tank would mean they’d have to deal with you for 15 more minutes.
Everytime the tiniest little thing goes wrong with your car, you fucking complain about it. “Wahhhh, my shifty feels notchy. My struts make a small squeak.”
I wish I knew where you were buying a car, I would’ve gone there myself and warned them about you.
I’m just surprised you didn’t make a thread containing a poll, asking whether or not you should report them to the DMV before you actually did it.
The headlight thing I agree with you on. If legally it shouldn’t pass inspection, and they passed it then refused to fix it, let the DMV screw them as hard as possible.
Can you prove that the headlight didn’t crack in transit from picking the truck up and driving it back to your house? Or that it didn’t happen since thursday? I mean who’s to say the time limit in which this crack took place? Maybe it cracked after they inspected it? Your mom probably hates you and cracked it in the middle of the night.

Think of is from a dealer stand point. You sell a car to some kid. Two-three days later he calls you up and complains that his headlight is cracked. You’re going to waste your alotted money, time and manpower to replace his cracked headlight. :bloated:
You see the thing is, you’re truck’s legal. My Sentra passed 2 years in a row with a cracked lense. Some shops don’t want to pass it because they’re unsure and better safe than sorry, but as long as there’s no missing plastic i.e. unfiltered light passing through, your truck is legal.
So yeah, shitty service but they didn’t do anything wrong. You should have inspected the truck before you accepted it. At least it’s a cheap lesson learned.
You’ll be getting a new clutch in 20k miles though!

hahaha, Ive already replaced it after 10k miles… it was over 5k miles so the dealership said they wouldnt warranty it…
The problems with the truck should have been addressed right then and there or I wouldn’t have taken it in that condition…once you drive off the lot your accepting the condition that its in
I would have checked that thing out with a fine tooth comb before leaving. I have never dealt with a used vehicle and a dealership before but all of my new cars are cleaned inside and out and gassed up

From your link…
“Lights All lighting must be of an approved type and inspected for operation, proper mounting, and broken or missing lenses:”
Sounds to me like cracked light housing will fail inspection.

Broken does not mean cracked. Broken refers to “two or more pieces”. Your windshield isn’t “broken” its “cracked”. “They burglarized my cd player and they broke my window” (referring to it being smashed).
Depends on your definition of “broken.” I don’t consider cracked and broken lenses the same thing, and neither did the shops that passed my Sentra. :gotme:
EDIT: Further evidence to cracks being legal, farther down the page under “mirrors” they specify that both cracks and breaks are illegal.
