all I know is that the I6 4.0 is strong as fuck, and the floor boards like to rot out. tell me more! what to look for, common problems, ect.thanks!
crank sensors fail, then they don’t start.
u joints fail in the front end over time but nothin major.
Decent gas mileage for what they are, on par with the 325
floor boards like you said.
bruce springsteen sucks
YOURE WRONG ABOUT THE BOSS
ha!
check the front of the frame for cracks where the spring mounts, check the rear frame where the spring mounts for similar cracks/ holes…
Body Mounts rusting out on the tub, steering box pushing thru the frame
hub bearings are prone to fail on the dana 30 up front, as well as ball joints.
The carpet is the cause for floor rot, rip it out.
4.0 are awesome.
Transfer cases like to go bad with higher miles, like 200k
Check where the front and rear shackles are connected to the frame for any twisting… That’ll let you know how much it’s been beat on…
Redneck lift.
And thats really about it. There’s not much to those things… I have a 91’ yj with the I6 and 0 issues. Just do your regular maintenance. CJ’s are badass, looking back I’d probably get something 80’s style, but oh well…
You have to wear sleeveless shirts when driving them…
the thing that bothered me most about my wrangler was the winter, the hvac system sucks, it’s cold in there, the seals were bad in mine so the inside of my windows frosted up at had a sheet of ice covering them almost every morning.
friend of mine had an '85 CJ7, only had some Carter carb problems. Nothing too bad.
ugh the one that i went to look at today was a fucking pile
http://buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/1407077602.html
looks nice in the pics… he said the drivers side had a “small hole” in it… the fucking seat was about to fall out of the car… hard top looked like someone fucking made it in their basement… drove all the way out to lockport for nothing
ive looked at 2 jeeps and both people have been complete rednecks. is this trying to tell me something?
I don’t really have much to add except Jeep Brah.
There is probably a wealth of knowledge here: http://www.wranglerforum.com/index.php
I gave up looking a few years ago after I drove to Roch for a Wrangler that “needed a fender and a grille, possibly a bumper”. Showed up and the whole frame was horribly bent, and the doors had a 1" gap from the body being so fucked. I got there and the owner who told me he was home wasn’t even there- said i’d have to pick him up across town if I needed him. That and the Jeepster Commando pile I looked at up there too, and…done. I love my Cherokee though, so it finally worked out.
fuck, sak… im jealous
i gotta get me one o dem
the 1st one i looked at, a 95 cherokee, the guy had to sell it bc he had just gotten his 2nd dwi :bloated: also, the TC blew, so instead of replacing it he just disconnected the front u-joints. WTF
check to make sure the 4x4 works. the YJ has an air disconnect on the front axle that likes to shit out at the worst possible times. Its an easy fix (put in TJ passenger axle shaft) but a pain in the dick if it’s only 2x4 when you need it.
i wouldn’t buy the 87-90 one’s. those have a carb’d 4.2 instead of the FI 4.0 that the newer jeeps came with.
Check the frame and body for rot… it’s buffalo and those are almost 20 year’s old now sooo yea they might have taken a beating
u-joints and stuff are cheap and easy to fix so i wouldn’t worry about that.
try checking wnyoffroad.org and see if there is anything local FS.
