after flushing my rad last week i thought i had an air lock in my system because my temp guage would read really high. since it has now been long enough that any air lock should have worked its way out by now im thinking my thermostat may be sticking a bit.the car will heat up to a normal running temp and then a min or so later it will start reading high, then if i get the rpms up a bit it will come back down and stay down, usually. does anybody know what this might be or have any input? thanks
thermostat, rad cap, airlock, temp guage/sending unit, coolant pump?
The coolant pump is most effecient at 2500-3000RPM. next time it gets hot, try holding the RPM at that range while parked and see if it cools down.
I think an airlock in your system could remain even after driving, depending where in your system it is.
Rad cap, other than testing it you could just inspect it for a good gasket. Or you could replace it with a higher pressure one anyway(300zx TT)
I dont think air lock will stay in your engine that long.
Get a new thermostat. prob solve your problem and there really cheap too.
If you got SR20 its got that crack nipple on the housing for taking out air and it works amazingly.
and your temp will go down when at higher temp cuz your water pump is just spinning faster but you guys know that.
One question. Do you know how to bleed the cooling system? because if you dont do it properly the air lock wont magicly work its way out. Download the FSM and it will show you how to bleed it.
