Temperature sensor, Sr

My temperature gauge in My S13 Does not work, i have swapped a S14 Sr in it.

I have been told that the temp senor in the engine has to be changed so that it is the same as the chassis. so i guess i need a sensor thingy from a dohc ka??? straight plug and play??

Secondly i bought a aftermarket electric water temp gauge. instead of getting a DOHC sensor could i not just replace the stock sensor from the Sr with this new one from my gauge, or will my ecu not like that?

Thanks.

Derek.

Erm, no, your SR motor needs an SR temp sensor that plugs into your SR harness.

Aftermarket temp sensors don’t have the same calibration as the factory sensor so no, you can’t use it.

i don’t know if you misunderstood or if i did. if i were to replace the sensor with my aftermarket one and use the aftermarket gauge. will my ecu not like having a signal at all since ill be using an independent unit.

if not then what is my problem, wiring?

Almost positive the ECU requires the stock signal etc…

Also pretty sure there is no difference between a S14 KA or SR Temp sensor.

Stock ECU needs the temp sensor for cold start/warmup (among other things), so yes its mandatory.

There are two water sensors; one the ECU uses and the other used by the cluster.

You can see it inthe pic below:

so therefore i should be able to remove my cluster one and put in my electric gauge, without any ill effect? that’s if it fits :S

As for it not working right now, do you think its a wiring issue?

I’m pretty sure you won’t be able to just screw in your aftermarket sensor into the cluster sensor’s port. :o

I’m not sure on the size of that port but it’s most likely in BSPT and I somehow doubt you have a temp sensor that’s BSPT, let alone the same size :o

Dude just tap your water neck (this shows an electric Autometer sensor):

Thank me later :o
