Temperature Sensor

I got a set of older HKS electronic temperature gauges (Peak Hold Warning Series) from heatw (thanks Ted), but only one came with the sensor. A new sensor from HKS will cost over $100, and I can get a whole new gauge for that much.

I don’t know how these things tick. My question is, is it possible that an OEM sensor of some sort or from another brand would work with the gauge?

This is what the sensor and gauge look like:

Most electric gauges are propiteary in that their sensors are calibrated to
send the proper voltage to teh gauges. I doubt there’s anything out there
that would work.

Try looking on eBay or talk to Adam (FEAST) to see if he can get you
something from Japan.

yeah, you’ll need those overnight parts from JAAAApan

Dr. Adam is on the case … theme song starts here…

Thanks Adam

any temp sensor will work. get an ntp sensor wich most automotive cars have anyway. all it does is send a voltage signal. nothing is calibrated. you need a sensor that has a thermistor in it that way as it heats up resistance decreases and more voltage going to your gauge therefore giving a reading

That’s what i was hoping to hear, thanks! What’s an NPT sensor?

Would it be possible to just splice the gauge into the existing water temp sensor wires?

ye thats the best way that way your gauge on your cluster works the same as yoour aftermarket gauge. what motor is it sr ka ?? if its KA i thinks its the sensor on the left. if its sr i am not sure. but let me know if you have anymore problems and i forgot what ntp stands for . negative thermal something meaning as temperature increases resistance decreases

Oh ok, that makes sense. It’ll be on a CA18DET; I don’t know where the sensor is, but it wont be hard to find once I have the car in front of me. Thanks a lot man!

no problem
