Texas hold 'em Poker, do you play it?

this might sound like a newb question but how do you play at the casino like how when i walk in so i sit down a poker table. were do i get chips etc. i know how to play just never played at the casino i always play online. i know how the main floor works (was a casino dealer for a while) just not the poker room.

Here’s a question:

How many think the online sites are rigged to get people to bet bigger therefore increasing the rake?

Online: Get a full house and get beat by a bigger full house

Real life: Get a full house and you are golden

  1. You ask the attendant to put you on the list for the type you wish to play (1/2,5/10/ Omaha, etc.)

  2. She calls you name and you cash in at a seperate window (at Irving the same attendant will cash you in).

  3. Sit down at an open seat at the table number she gave you.

I used to be big into online poker. When the legal issues came out, we did a lot of research. The biggest misconception is that it is legal to play poker online. There is no law banning US Players from playing online. The only legal issue is that any site or financial institution must not take gambling transactions from US players. This is a US law so since most companies are not based in the US, they will continue to allow US players. I use UltimateBet.com a lot and they use an offshore payment processing company to process debt/credit card transactions but it is fully legal to gamble online.

Seneca in niagara falls you walk in and go to the counter. The limits are on the board. Typically you would play 1-2 No Limit in either 100 max, 200max, etc. or they have 2-4 limit, 3-6 limit, etc.

Just tell them what ones you want and they tell you a table number when you are up and you bring your money to the cage in the poker room. This is the only thing I am not happy with at Seneca becuase the poker room is not part of the casino so you can not use your chips from the casino in the poker room. Tell the lady what you are playing and take your chips to your assigned table and you are good to go.

Word of advice, when you are there your first time, grab a poker room business card. Your first time there you won’t mind waiting as you watch and get a feel for the place.

The next time you intend on going, you’ll want to call ahead so you don’t have to wait.

Play at non raked tables? Of course this nets you 0 in frequent player points, but then you can’t blame it on the rake…

Of course back when I lived at my parents and held poker games 4 days a week I’d see people lose to a bigger full house constantly.

So no one here wants to get a home game going?

^^^ The entire time I lived in Buffalo I always wanted to, however I no longer live there so I am out.

I used to live off of playing poker online. 8 to 12 tabling on Poker Stars and Party Poker before the U.S. ban against Neteller/Firepay/etc. Playing anything from 2/4, 3/6, & 5/10 FL to $300 NL.

I just started playing again but so far I stick to just live games, as there are a lot of Indian casinos within 15-20 minutes out here in San Diego and the games are very soft. I’m still deciding if I want to get back into it hardcore again, I make good money now working and my family really hates it.

  1. The rake is pre-determined for whatever stake you are playing, most of the lower limit games are maxed at $1/hand and anything that has a BB of $10+ is capped at $5/hand. So your “rake theory” is completely wrong. There are also websites you can sign up for with rakeback programs where you get a % of the rake back. Usually anywhere from 25% to 35%.

  2. Online there are a lot more hands that are played because there is no physical dealer or maintenance. Thus since more hands are played, more outcomes can occur.

It’s such a rookie mistake to think that online poker websites are rigged. If you honestly think they are, the reason you aren’t profiting is because your play is bad.
