His mother is a white American so he is half African and half white American
Actually it would make his father just African
True he is our first half white and half African President. However I don’t think his race is relevant. If you voted for him because he is black or if you did not because he is black then you are a racist.
I don’t think there is anyone on here that would disagree that the last two years sucked big time. Who is to blame? Congress and GW. Our current congress has the lowest approval rating in history and has also been the least productive in history. We elected all theses Democratic people on the fact that we were tired of the status quo and we wanted out of Iraq. They got in and took over congress. They had a big oppertunity to get us out of Iraq with the war funding bill. They treatened to put a timline on it and they should have. Instead they just blamed GW. They said that GW said he would veto it if we did and that would leave our troops without funding. Bullshit!!! They could have put it in and told GW this is the only bill we are putting through. If you veto it you will leave our troops with out funding. Either way if the troops did not have funding guess what??? THEY WOULD HAVE TO COME HOME!!! They knew we needed to stay in Iraq so they pussied out on their campain promises. Gw was more than happy to be the fall guy; which is why I think he is retarded. So my point is that congress is the real problem here. If Obama can get them to be productive he will have my respect and support. If they continue to be assholes then we all should vote out every incumbent next election no matter what party they are in.
Very mature point by JEG et al. It’s refreshing compared the group that wants to see Obama fail because he wasn’t their guy, even if he takes the country down with him.
Like I said man, he may not be my pick, but I don’t want him to fail miserably. I love this country. I think it is the greatest country in the world. I would also like to someday have a family and have children of my own. I do not want them to have to grow up in some shitsac country. Don’t get me wrong here, I don’t really have much faith in Obama at all really. But he is who we have and I hope to god he does a decent job. I personally don’t care if he is black, white, red, purple, green or w/e. Skin color does not define a person. Their actions do. While I do reaize this is a historic event and is a major step for the black community, I do believe much of the reason he won is because of his skin color. This job is THE hardest job one can have. I just hope he is ready for this and does not buckle under the pressure of such a high position. If he does do good, great, that means that we will have a better country. If not, well…then we will have to choose more wisely in 4 years.
i just hope that the country is not in a bigger mess then it already is. and race does not matter unless you are the drive-by media then today you had the biggest orgy that you have ever had.
The party lines really don’t mean jack shit anymore. Government is full of career politicians that are in it for personal gain rather than better the system and people in which they serve.
yup… sad but true. I have faith that there are still one or two good ones, but other than that, they’re all trash.
With that said, I really hope he has a sucessful presidency and doesn’t put us in a tighter spot than we’re in now. I am glad that Bush is finally out, not so much that I feel we’d be in a different place today than we were yesterday, but it’ll be nice to finally hear the media cover something else for a change and give people another outlet to complain
I’m very scared of some of his proposed policies and honestly hope that the rest of our government has enough forseight not to pass them through just because it’s someone from their own team. I would LOVE to finally see someone do something about social security, first and foremost. I’ve heard politicians preach it as long as I can remember and here we are, 20-some years later… and still have a fubar system
If he really wants all this social ‘change’, he should start by fixing the broken ones that we already have, before proposing new ones. If he somehow manages to do that (I’m not holding my breath), I’d certainly be more willing to listen to his other ideas than I am now
sure… or any system that assures that we can collect on that when we retire… be it a private account only accessible by US or a government controlled account that THEY cannot touch (I’d really prefer the former). They all talk about wanting a social security reform, but nobody ever does shit about it.
either that or get rid of it all together, give the people back what they’ve paid into it and let US put it into some sort of 401K type of savings plan. It’s fustrating to see how much you pay into it, year after year, knowing it’s going to vanish eventually
I agree. I was just picturing if we had put the surplus into the lock-box, as he intended, instead of the Bush tax cuts. Woulda been nice to have that particular obstacle overcome by now. Oh well.
Lets be real, if we didn’t “lose revenue” (can’t lose what you really never earned) due to the tax cuts, you have to admit that that extra money wasn’t going into any savings plan for SS. It was going to be spent on more social programs.
The government is just like welfare bums. They get money in excess of normal income, and they blow it on bullshit stuff that isn’t needed, instead of fixing already existing problems.
Social programs are the flat screen TV’s of the state and federal government.
Why would he lie about that as his campaign platform? Bush kept his word on what he was going to do with it, I see no reason why Gore wouldn’t have kept his.
