I don’t really see your point with the memorabilia. It’s good to see that the country, as a whole, has faith in the person that is supposed to be entrusted with our future and well being. I feel that he is now going to be held to a higher standard due to the support and the weight that was put on his shoulders as of today, and that might be enough to keep him from getting discouraged and saying f*ck it and saying he was put into situation that is insurmountable.
For the record…the New Era hats is what really pushed my WTF button.
That totally reminds me of all my desert storm trading cards.
I know this, and you know this, but you tell that to all the people that are already praising him and the work that he HASN’T done yet. I’m not going to give him fanfare until I see promises fulfilled.
word.
You can’t really damn those who do. You can either wait for the results and then give kudos, or support him in hopes of pushing to to achieve those goals. IMO neither are wrong.
It seems to me that people are reacting the way they are because they have been starved for hope and inspiration for years. I don’t fault them for that, even though I agree that they are going to be let down by reality.
I fault noone for hope and optimism but the reasons for the hope and optimism are what scares me.
Are his ideas that much better than previous Presidents?
Are his promises any different than the ones that have been unfulfiled by previous Presidents?
Well any President be able to follow through with their campaign ideals based on Washington Politics as a whole?
At the end of the day Obama will be no different than anyone who has served before him.
Well maybe this “false hope” will help light a fire under America’s ass. When is the last time the majority of the country actually stood behind their leader like this?
This following really doesn’t have a lot of bad sides to it, as far as I see. Sure if he doesn’t pull through on his promises (which I’m sure some will go unfulfilled) it will hurt some people, but at least people are inspired. And inspiration can go a hell of a long way IMO.
Inspiration is only temporary. People will “try” and do good, and then shortly thereafter forget about a cause. it’s only a temporary kick in the ass. People have a very short attention span which goes hand in hand with dedication.
It seems as a lot of people are putting all their hope into Obama to do all these things and that they can probably accomplish a good amount on their own to help “fix” issues on a smaller level. But many people lack leadership and initiative to be proactive.
Putting so much faith into one person only sets them up for a greater letdown.
Today was the political equivolent of jackie robinson breaking the color barrier and it shouldnt have been a momentous occasion???
This man united the vast majority of a country in a time when most have lost hope and this should be a down played day???
Today was a giant morale boost after an admittedly terrible year out with the old in with the new.
^Exactly. And anyone who disagrees with the importance of that, sucks.
I joined habitat for humanity :gotme:
mainly for personal satisfaction and building my resume though, not for the obama youth.
as far as inauguration costs go I think it was to accommodate the sheer numbers of attendees present.
well i hope senators Edward Kennedy and Robert Byrd are alright
I agree on most of your comments, except for the jackie Robinson one, and I did not vote for Obama. He has united this country and given us hope. I agree that we needed to dump the current administration. However, I mean dump everyone; including congress. This congress has been the least productive and has had the lowest approval rating in history.
Hopefully the excitment will continue and he will turn this country around. If he succeeds then I would be the first to admit that he would then be the greatest President of or time and one of the greatest of all time.
So it’s ok to spend $180 MILLION to make people feel better that we don’t have money?
I know when I am broke, I take a loan out and go to the casino and spend more.
The man has made promises and has not done anything yet. But people are worshipping him based on promises. I hope he can fulfil them. I support his want to do so.
Will we have a huge celebration when a women gets elected president, sure. Is it necessary if we are in the same financial dire, no.
And as I stated before, if McCain, Hillary, Obama, whoever won, I would say this same statement about the cost of this inauguration.
If Obama had not won, how much more would it cost to deal with the outrage that would have surely taken place?
If he didn’t win, then obviously he wouldn’t have been nearly as popular. Therefore it’s a moot point, which is moot anyways as he did win. So it’s all moot.
