Jay recently built a cat back for my 2005 Mini Cooper S. Originally he built a 3" straight pipe from the cat back. No mufflers. Basically on first start up he told me that we needed to do something about it because it was super loud. Here’s how it sounded:
I drove it like that for a week while Jay built a resonator for it. I’m sure he can say more about it than I can, but it did reduce the drone and overall loudness of it quite a bit. He threw it on in just a couple hours and had it back to me that day. Here’s how it sounds now:
Overall I love how it sounds. Jay did an awesome job in a timely manor for half of the cost of an aftermarket system. I would recommend him to anyone looking to have exhaust work done to their vehicle. Also, if you want to see/here more videos of the exhaust straight piped, just go to my YouTube channel.
Leaving it straight piped wasn’t really an option. It was unbelievably loud and there was no way I could daily drive it. Even with the resonator on it’s still quite a bit louder than any aftermarket cat back available for my car.
Thanks! Without the resonator on, the sunroof needed to be cracked at any speed over ~55.
If not, it would drone so loud that your head would explode. It’s much better now.
considering this is the supercharged model, I’d probably have gone 2.5" to retain some healthy backpressure. If it were the turbo version 3" is totally understandable.
though I’m sure it sounds great and obviously the quality is spectacular.
