The 2014 Camaro Looks Better...

Who gives a shit? If you read what the car was built for you’d understand why it doesn’t have those things in it. It’s no different than say the old Evo RS where it had no power windows/locks, no AC, no stereo, no wing etc. It’s purpose built.

purpose built marketing.

Purpose built or not, its a $75,000 Camaro. No thank you.

i love the back. i hate the new front end on everything that is so squished together

I think you completely missed the point of my response to yammy. He claimed that prices of cars like this were high because of unneeded gadgets & features. I pointed out this car lacks gadgets & features, therefore implying that his claim was incorrect.

Make sense now?

2013 Z06 was the same price…

The concept of high HP/stripper race cars was a reasonable price its kind of backwards having the same price point as your premier sports car.

It’s a really sweet car with amazing performance the price is just odd the supercharged ZL1 camaro base was 55k in 2013 also.

The Z/28 should be faster than the ZL1, the ZL1 was faster than the C6 Z06, except for the $98k Z06 (w/Z07 package).

nyspeed:

$75k track ready camaro = hate
$39k track “prep” mini = love

:gotme:

I think both are cool but they’re on the way to having a 100k production Camaro which is funny.

Don’t they already have the copo Camaro which is like around that range? Turn key 8 second drag car but I’m sure everyone would say that’s too much too

Yeah makes sense josh my bad

Add 13k for brakes and you’re at 68k…not too far off haha

COPO isn’t a good comparison its not even a street car

I get what you’re saying but they still offer it for sale haha. I think the Camaro for this body style has been pretty versatile if you ask me. Nice looking street car, they have the zl1 for more power and better performance and there’s the z28 which is great for tracking and the copo for straight drag if you have the cash.

$75k is insane. I was figuring the car would be right around the ZL-1 base price, or just a touch more ($55k-$60k). You could have 2 of my cars and some change left over. The Z/28 is sweet, but the sum of the parts just doesn’t add up to me.

Finally GM comes out with a beautiful looking/performing car that isn’t a corvette. Please excuse me while I go end my life because I cant even afford to drive a Camaro. :frowning:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you’ll just have to live with the regular SS model sir

the ZL1 is not faster than a C6 Z06, it just happened to have better tires, with similar tires its no contest

You are correct, in the link I posted the ZL1 (@ 2:57.5) is faster than TWO C6 Z06s (@ 3:01.1 and 2:58.2). Run what you brung, bring slicks, not excuses (or at least sporty tires).

Seriously though, I do agree that a lot of sick lap times by “stock” with “xyz” package is biased by different tire capabilities. And the Z/28 has better tires than the ZL1.

They are closer to a $50k Mini.

In both cases a person can have a more capable (albeit less comfortable) and cheaper track car if they bought a lower model, gutted the interior, threw on some suspension pieces, race pads and R-comps. Although the Z/28 & LS7 does seem to have superior oiling and cooling over the lower models, how much does that translate to track longevity vs. a LS3 ?

I think that this quote applies to both cars;

This

LOL^

Traditionally I just don’t remember when growing up and looking at cars with my dad that the z28 was some crazy high priced car that cost more than the corvette.

Yeah they did the opposite of what the z28 stood for. Originally the Z28 had a smaller engine then the SS, now its bigger, and costs more. Although the z28 was built for trans America racing, but I believe that’s not around any more, I’m no expert.

It’s just business 101. GM is making a LOT of money on each one of these cars. They are priced at $75k because they will sell all of them at $75k. The Z/28 shares about 70% of it’s car with my car but somehow it’s $40k more. I could probably purchase EVERY component that is different, and sell off my stuff and create my own Z/28 and be $20k ahead.

It used to be a working mans Corvette. In every generation 1st-4th it commanded a premium price over the base Camaro, but it was easily attainable on a blue collar budget. Now it’s $25k more than a base Corvette. The sad thing is that a base Corvette will probably hang with it on a racetrack (460hp and 32xxlbs versus 505hp and 38xxlbs), and a Corvette with the Z51 package will beat it handily.
