The 3 day - E30 M50B25NV Swap

ugh its supposed to rain all week, sucky working conditions

“That’s the 2.5L DOHC 4 valve per cylinder Non vanos 325i engine from '92.”

Thanks for explaining that, I get frustrated reading threads that just give a bunch of code numbers that I don’t know.:biglaugh:(seriously)

Good luck.

Maybe, how stupid are we talking? The wife is starting to bitch about my spare parts supply. But an engine and tranny are always worth keeping around for a track car.

Which Glen events are you doing? I have to schedule a few more after the cage goes in.

Should be a fun car after the swap, it’s not too bad before with a little suspension work.

Greg, stop by the house after work and we can talk. I’ll be here all day working on the swap.

I’ll swing by…

Racelogic runs completed for stock M20B25. (SOHC 2.5L Inline 6)

0-60 - 7.2
0-100 - 21.5
0-100-0 - 28.6
1/4 Mile - 15.5 @ 87.1

Did those about 6 times to get my best numbers. GPS based so you know it’s accurate.

Throwing the car on the scales now to get weight distribution numbers and total stock wet weight (3/4 tank of gas).

dave mentioned something about this… nice project!

God I love that Racelogic box.

Its supposed to be sunny tomorrow, at least. Hopefully will give you steam to finish it up.

Front 53.6%
Rear 46.3%
Total weight (3/4 tank of fuel): 2741

Tearing into the e30 as we speak, had to turn the pcar sideways in the barn to get the front of the e30 in due to the amount of boxes of shit I have sitting around right now, but atleast it got me out of the rain. Hopefully should have the e30 prepped, the wiring done, and the m50 prepped for tomorrow. More pics soon!

Gooooood stuff

Ok, so I lied, it’s going to be a 4 day swap. Got a ton done today, but I dont feel comfortable with how close the fan is to the radiator (when installed which it’s not in these photos) so I refuse to run it like that. Gonna grab a thin electric tomorrow and toss that in place instead. Also going to wire up the connectors (see below) during lunch to make it a plug and play swap. Everything else is pretty much buttoned up other than an exhaust… so I’m going to be driving it straight piped into Buffalo on Thursday to get it tightened up at Mufflerman. Should be entertaining

No, there were not any leaks or anything…

Need to finish wiring up the connectors tomorrow. That’s the e30 engine harness connector (left), and the e36 body harness connector (right) which I need to put together so I can interface the e30 body harness with the e36 engine harness.

e36 pan (top) vs the e34 pan (bottom). Needed the e34 5 series pan to clear the e30 crossmember.

And finished my day with a garbage plate that Brent_Strong and Mark (neonglh) brought me

Oh, I totally forgot, I got a set of Borbet Type A’s for track wheels from a kid on R3vlimited and a new set of 225/50R15 M.Pilot Sport Cups from Tire Rack

Nice. Almost ready for Saturday

Yeah, I hope to fire it up tomorrow, hopefully there are no issues and I can be doing siqqq burnouts. Gotta pick up my m5 master cylinder from Napa tomorrow (or maybe Skrapper got it for me? Not sure…). Put that on, put the fuel lines on, put the new bolts in the new flex on the driveshaft, drill one hole for the center bearing, put the radiator in, put the electrical plug and play connector in, then it’s ready to go. Still a decent bit, but mostly little stuff.

Of course then I have other stuff like the springs and what not that I want done for Saturday.

Awesome  hopefully I’ll get to see this soon… so does this mean you beat Newman in who will have a project running first? Since this is like your 5th project build

looking great mike!!!

why do you have to drill a hole for the csb?

that guibo looks purdy

The e36 one is significantly wider, it still fits, but the bottom flanged part doesnt line up quite right. I need to cut approx a 1/4" off it and drill a new hole. Will not affect function at all. I’ll take pics to better explain.

Mmmmmmmm garbage plate.

Defin coming along, looks good.
