Not sure if I posted this or not…Joined Terrie’s and met with a trainer there. Got my a pretty all around workout schedule. I don’t really do free weights, just use the machines.
deadlifts at 7am suck balls
225 x3 275x3 315x2 365x2 415x1 415x1 365x1… new personal best of 415lbs deadlift. woo:) weigh in at 188lbs. I think if I did the same workout at 5pm i’d be up at 425 or more… but I do cross fit at 7am every morning
also, front squatted 275… really takes a toll on my wrists though
I never do front squats b/c of that exact reason.
Fuckin A you are strong. 2.2 x bodyweight deadlift? Dayum. Good work. That front squat is no joke either.
Crossed-arm grip?
They will stretch out and hurt less over time. Stretch your lats and triceps out good before getting started to make sure you can get your elbows up high and keep the load off your wrists.
If you have trouble keeping your elbows high and torso upright while front squatting you probably need some back work.
Where do you do Crossfit?
Just did my CF total recently. Back squat was 475, push press was 210 and deadlift was 515
I live out in Washington State… damn, those are pretty damn good numbers. how much do you weigh?
I’m stll on that other exercise regimen, 4 weeks left, I think I’ve flat lined on weight loss, I’m between 149-152, lowest ever since high school, and strength has increased, a little toner, but good progress nonetheless, his workouts are brutal if followed exactly

Let us know how this goes, if its really worth the 40$
225
Never felt comfortable or stable enough to really have the desire, I’ve tried. Laziness is my only excuse.

my wrists are bad enough, carpel tunnel from whackin’ it so much. I do some front’s on the Hack backwards occasionally.

Will do. If it is good I may pay the 40 myself :snky:

I figured this would be an appropriate place to ask a question.
a few weeks ago I was finishing up a workout and at the end of my workout it said I burned 400 something calories. It was a simple walk on a treadmill, 4mph with a steep incline. It was enough to keep my HR ~135… It was incredibly easy, almost boring honestly. But my HR/workout monitor said I did 400+ calories…
I got to thinking, if a short 20-30 minute workout burns 400 calories… I work harder than that at work for 12-16+ hours a day!
I’ve been wearing my HR monitor at work for about a week or so… I generally average about 475-500 calories an hour throughout the day. Some days it’s quite a bit higher, some days a little less depending on what I’m doing.
Now we’re talking over 6k calories burned just at work on a normal shift.
How accurate are these monitors? My HR is typically 110-140 through the day. Does that mean I should be well over that calorie intake? The first day I wore the monitor was quite a shocker, because I’ve been struggling with extreme tiredness over the last few months… Did sleep apnea testing, talked to psychologists, counselors for depression (even though I don’t feel depressed)… The Sleep Apnea testing did show I have an abnormal sleep cycle… (was something like 26% N3 and 13% REM)
Right now they have me on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin for energy/depression, and then Ativan and Trazadone to help my sleep quality.
Perhaps my tiredness comes from lack of eating? I do eat every 2-3 hours otherwise I get pretty lifeless. I eat well, following a lot of guides from bodybuilding.com
Since I started recording my diet, my daily intake is approx 3.5-4k
Even on the weekends I’m high, Yesterday I split wood for 2 hours and the monitor said ~1050 calories… That wasn’t difficult work. I can even post the recording of it.
Let me preface this with I am not a doctor and have no medical training so take my “opinion” (and it is just an opinion without much fact behind it) with a grain of salt. For the love of God don’t listen to what I say.
That being said…
It sounds like your doctors fucking suck ass. They’ve got you on some heavy shit for just being tired. Did they even do an ASI stress test link to see if your adrenals were jacked up? Let me guess, you have an upside down cortisol profile? Tired in the morning and wired at night and can’t sleep? It sounds like adrenal fatigue.
How’s your thyroid? Did they check your Free T3 and Free T4 levels before putting you on psychoacting drugs?
I know a few people that are on or were on those same or similar drugs, and none of them felt “good” on them. It sounds like they might be onto something with those anxiety/depression medicines because your calorie concerns sound obsessive. I don’t mean that as an insult. Having some obsessive tendancies make doctors dilligent, engineers careful, etc. But it can hurt a person too.
I’d start by throwing away your calorie monitors and forgetting about them for a while and focus on eating good quality food. If you’re not overweight then eat as much meat and veggies as you feel like, and try adding in some starchy carbs if you don’t already eat things like white rice, potatoes, yams, squash, etc. No grains, other than the white rice. Coffee is OK if you’re not having more than a cup or two a day, more than that can contribute to the adrenal problems I’m guessing at.
Get some low intensity exercise almost every day. That easy walking you were talking about is spot on. Lift some weights too. No demanding cardio. Save that for when you’re feeling better. It sounds like you’ve already got that covered with chopping wood and whatnot though.
Some magnesium (citrate or chelated, not sulfate your body doesn’t absorb that) at night can help with sleep. Maybe even a little melatonin too for a little while. Just don’t take it for a long time and wind up down-regulating your own melatonin production.
At some point you’ll have to get off those drugs too. Nobody feels “good” on them.
This part is going to sound a little hippy but honest to god it works and has real physiological benefits: meditate. Look up holosync. It’s expensive but I found a torrent for it. It’s a whole program but I’m not that into it so I just listen to this one half hour beginner’s track that’s just the sound of rain and bells. It’s relaxing as hell and my mind just wanders into memories that I didn’t even know I had. It might be too big of a file to email but I can try if you want to PM me your addy. Throw in your earbuds, shut your eyes, and just avoid distractions for half an hour. You’re left alone with just you and your brain.
But back to the actual calorie thing that you asked about: It sounds like you’re pretty active and not overweight so I would stop worrying about total calories and eat when you’re hungry. Unless you’re hungry all the time you’re probably not under-eating.
If you’re not overweight just make sure you’re getting adequate carbs. If you’re trying to support high work output with low carbohydrate you’re going to burn yourself out in a hurry. Baked potatoes with butter are delicious!

Anyhow, back to me.
Just did day 1 of that Jason Ferruggia plan. Should be interesting going up to 8 reps from my usual 3-5 rep sets. My endurance sucks ass. Going from incline bench to overhead dumbell presses was humbling. It’ll be interesting to see what’s sore tomorrow.
Think I’m going to work in some squats to my beginnners routine. Need the leg work for my half marathon training.
Good plan. Big lifts mean big testosterone. Testosterone is good for, well, everything.
Don’t forget to keep your head up and your chest big. Keep your eyes fixed on something high. Don’t lean forward, squat down. You should feel it in your ass along with your legs.
I’m going to be the “lame” one in here… Just started the Power 90 program (2 steps down from P90X); gotta start somewhere. My wife and I are both doing it, and we’re both already down weight, and have a visible difference in how we look, plus how we feel. Not doing the whole diet along with it, but probably 50% of the diet that goes with it, and the rest is our modified version. As of 2 weeks of diet change, and just over 1 week of doing the program I was already down 4#. We’ve now got 2 weeks down, and a long ways to go.
But it’s a lot easier finding 30-45 mins a night at home than going to a gym; at least for us.
Right now just doing calf raises, supine leg press, and another machine that escapes me. I always liked squatting though, I could actually do a decent amount of weight in HS.
That’s awesome. I wish I could work out at home but I can’t motivate myself to do it.
Yea, if you read my other thread… I don’t have a choice but to loose weight and get into shape. And with my schedule, it’s impossible to get to the gym, but finding that time at home is easy. (Work, EMBA, Wife, and an 18 month old!)
Ha, yeah you’re busy as fuck. Cool that your wife does it too. You can keep each other honest.
