I used to reccomend Barbill every time, but have had mixed reviews as of late.
My last visit was fine, but the one before that was TERRIBLE.
My medium wings were dried out and had a bunch of spots with NO sauce.
I asked for some sauce, because they were shit. I have been going there for 15 years, so
I don’t mind dipping. Eveyone has an off day.
But, the bartender decided to tell me that every wing gets painted individually etc.
He gave me a small blue cheese container with Medium sauce and proceded to the register to add it to my bill.
That made me angry. I requested he take the sauce back and give me the check because we were leaving after 1/2 of my beer and maybe 2 spicey bbq wings. (Also light on sauce but good enough)
I had a picture on my phone and only recently deleted it to make room
I miss the good old tuesday night BOGO w/o needing a coupon. Standing room only and the joy of watching new people get kicked off
tables they did not wait for.
I will drive 10 min down the street to the dives of Wales Center or Pine Lounge and feast on delicious wings and marvel at hillbillies out on the town.
So i went to Gabriels Gate today on allen st, and its a nice setting, place was built in 1864 which is cool although not super amazing architecture. So i ordered a double order of medium wings, the waitress asked if i wanted them normal or crispy. So i said crispy and thought hmm, they gotta have good wings then.
The wings arrived, they were pretty decent, i wouldn’t go out of my way to get them though. Like they would be good compared to shitty chicken wings, but i dont even know if they are better than duffs.
The old lady ordered a burger and didnt finish it because she didnt care for it. I think it has spinach on it so it was probably on the healthier side, but she felt even the beef wasnt that tasty, like maybe it was 90/10.
I like Gabriel’s gate been there a few times with my brother who lives in Allentown
The thing I don’t understand is no free refill, for the 4 cents it costs that makes me mad.
Ordered some wings becausei thought they should have decent wings… Wrong.
So i ordered a single order medium (no special instructions), which a single there is 8 wings for $11.99 or so.
They brought them out to me and they were luke warm at best, must have been sitting for awhile. I ate like 2.5 wings and they were not crispy, the skin just pulled off them with each bite. Sauce was decent but figured maybe they would have been crispy if they were fresh. I was really 2nd guessing even having them make me more or not because i had a feeling they would still suck.
I theb figured, well i paid for them and i deserve to at least have them come out to me fresh, maybe they will be decent…
Waitress says ok we will have more made for me and says it should be 5minutes… Which might explain why theyre not crispy… But could also be that its ordered often so maybe some are already cooking. I told her it was no rush in hoping they wouldnt rush them out to me.
So she brings them out to me, i have some and they still sucked. But they were hot at least.
I didnt complain l about the 2nd order sucking because im super picky.
Highlight of the night was when i went to the bar after eating and got a 24yr old kid to tell the guy next to him that he was mad at and wanted to say something to, “my drink tastes like your dick”
It was hilarious.
Overall a good night, cool place, wings suck or the chef that night did.
Went to the yelling goat, the berbere wings were interesting, theyre good, but the curry like smell and spices overwhelmed me, was only able to eat 5 wings. It was good but they spiced me out. Definitely worth a try.
I feel like the wings would be good to split with a few people because after a few my tongue was overwelmed.
For the area, the place is cool but food is meh and the whole place has a really corporate vibe to it. Great for people in town and awesome looking but the food is meh at best. If I am down there and want something, I rather just go to Pizza Plant.
As for wings, Barbill is the best I have had. Papa Jakes used to be my go to but since they moved, the food is so hit and miss now its not worth it. I did like Brickyard up in Lewiston. They have a dry rub one that is pretty delicious for something different.
So I went to wales center hotel. The wings were nice and crispy and fairly large, the sauce was ordered medium, and I would call it a true medium but kind of a plain sauce, like maybe it was legit Frank’s hot sauce. Which normally to me would sound like all I would need for a sauce and be happy with. They were good but not super outstanding, or worth the drive from lackawanna. I feel barbills are definitely better, 911 still my #1 . The wings were good but not the best thing on earth good, which to me 911 is.
Still haven’t been to 911 so need to put that on my list. Had my favorite wing this week though, the double dipped cajun from Elmo’s on Millersport. Beats out my 2nd favorite Barbill.
