yeah, team gtg, that’s the private lake i was talking about, stay out of my backyard! 16 acres bordering the property FTW!!!
So what? deer lakes park is just permit only fishing?
are you talking about beaver run if so i dont go up there my friend got a $350 fine up there but it is great fishing
Im talking about the link you posted AND beaver run
the link is for dear lakes and its legal to fish all year round. beaver run is illegal to fish but you may be able to sneek up there
up past IUP is little mahoning. decent fly fishing depending on the time of year.
trout is where its at.
this is a native brookie from the same river. They don’t stock brookies anywhere near by. i was pretty pumped to land this and complete the cycle for the day.
That brookie is one of the biggest native brooks i’ve ever seen, probly the biggest. I got one up PA grand Canyon up in Tioga county one year. Was about 13" long or so which is HUGE for this tiny creek. Most natives here are 5-7 inches long.
It was 1/4 mile or so hike up stream to the waterfall that used to be one of the most beautiful fishing holes i’ve seen anywhere. It was a C-shaped rock wall in the side of the mountain with the stream dumping in over the top, falling about 12 ft or so. Nice pool that looked to be several feet deep and I’d say 30 feet wide or so. Big winter/spring flood washed a bunch of timber into the area and its completely ruined the hole.
All that remains is 2 small side pockets that are accessible with fly rod. Thats where I caught the big one. Most colorful brook trout I’ve caught out of this stream. Really bright orange/red around the face with a samon type hooked jaw. I creeped up to the edge of one of the downed trees and made a quick short cast and he crushed it. Soon as i saw the flash in the water i knew i had a special fish. Its really fun to fish this little creek, its called 4 mile run up in tioga county that runs into pine creek. There are a few little creeks running into Pine within the area but this creek which borders the camp we stay at seems to have the native brooks.
alright cool, but where is beaver run? and why is it iilegal to fish? private property?
gimmie the lat and long. I just wanna mark it on my map
i think you can fish some parts of beaver run? take the parkway to monroeville, get off on 286 golden mile highway and just follow the signs for 286. at one point you drive over a land bridge that is about 2 feet above the water. it really is gorgeous (this is where you can’t fish). but if you keep going, take a left(?) and follow the signs you can fish in another section.
Oh I see it, thats a pretty big lake. I think I passed over that once
that was open for a period of time but its reclosed now they have been talkin about re opening it for years now but they havent yet.you are right thought it was open there.
I have been working so much lately that I haven’t got out much. I did have a pretty good few weeks of trout fishing back in April though.
Zachary and I went to the good old 'coon at about noon to get get Zach’s feet wet this season. Thus far I have had a pretty okay few days, caught 9 average size trout.
Anyway, I let the pictures do the talking :)
this is my fishin’ buddy Cash, he wasnt too thrilled in the beginning!
This is the catch today plus one more average size trout that I caught after we took pictures!
We were fishing across from the dock in the cove at raccoon. I caught the fish on my trusty ultra light ugly stick with 4lb Trilene XL. I was fishing powerbait off the bottom like usual The colors that were hitting were oranges and chartreuse.
The fish was 22 inches and a bit over 8lbs
Cash wasnt too sure about the fish!
He was cooked on the grill!
Here is my trout after is was cooked!
Nice size trout.
I was catching them like crazy in a little hard to get to spot at canonsburg. all off the bottom with a live worm
