Having only read review I believe the GTR’s shining feature is it’s insane straight line performance for the cash.

Because it runs 118 in the 1/4 mile for 80K.
uh, what? Interview people who own 70k+ cars, and ask them if something broke on their car and they dropped the warranty for it, what they would do…pretty sure 9/10 of the car owners would be PISSED.
Mid to low 11s @ 120 ish is a better deal than 90% other production cars capable of the same ET.
OK, so say they let you know about the tranny defect or you read about it and ask before you buy it and they say “Yes, if the tranny shits the bed, warranty is voided” or whatever. I’m sure if you had the money to throw around (as most potential buyers of this car will most likely) you wouldn’t really care and would buy it anyways.
I’m not going to interview anyone, so relax.
If you were an enthusiast and really wanted the GT-R to track it or actually drive it like a car is meant for, i’m sure you wouldn’t really care. And most people who own $70k+ new cars are rich, don’t know shit about cars, and are older people who don’t want to do work on their own car.
So the oil change costs a few hundred, brake work is a few Gs, and a new set of rims and tires are close to five figures…
You mean to tell me there are people out there buying this car that are depending on the warranty to be able to afford it…? :
Launch control is kinda gimmicky (to me), to me it doesn’t take a whole lot away from the GT-R if you don’t launch it like mad all the time. Heck, IMO full out drag launches would probably get boring after the first few times, but accelerating, turning, and stopping unlike anything else that weighs two tons… Might take a bit longer to get sick of ;D.
I could see though how on the principle that if it’s factory installed it should be able to withstand abuse- this is a letdown…
Not sure how that makes it slow… as the video shows it running a mid 11. Not bad for a stock car. Faster than most cars 2x or more the price.
The point is, MOST people who buy them, just have it to have it. Know what I mean? They might own the dealership, or just have the car because it is cool. The majority of people who buy it won’t be racing it every weekend, but will have it as a sunny day car. They will get the scheduled maintenance done and that is that. Of course they are going to be mad if something breaks, but nothing will break because they won’t be pushing the car… so the warranty won’t matter.
not saying that anything with the warranty has anything to do with affording the car…just stating that Warranty’s SELL cars…and in this case, this will be a let down to alot of potential GT-R owners.
for well over 80 grand i could build a car that would smoke that in the quarter and handle like it was on a rail overpriced piece of shit in my book
true…guess im just referring the to the way it should be driven, which would void the warranty.
I know, you could probably do so for 30 grand or less. That isn’t really the point. People who want the GT-R will buy it, people who don’t, including myself, wont.
haha, I know… lame. Luckily GM is in so much trouble that they practically have to warranty everything to keep product moving :mwahaha
OK, so let’s put you in that position for a minute. You don’t know shit about cars, are rich, and don’t do any work whatsoever on your car. What if you are out one day, giving your golf buddy or someone a ride, and decide to try out the launch control mode? You set it up, take off, and BOOM! There goes your transmission. Have the car towed to the dealer, and they tell you that your warranty is void and you will have to pay roughly 1/8 the cost of the vehicle to have the car fixed. There is no way in hell that you can sit there and say that you wouldn’t be pissed off.
understadable i guess i just dont get all hard over supercars …would i drive one if given the keys ?fuckin a right and i prolly break it …but im content with my domestics
I’m with you… just replace domestics with anything haha
i wouldnt drive just anything :ponder i just prefer the cars associated with mullets :lol
If i was rich, didn’t know shit about cars and older and did nothing to my own car, whether it’s the highest line of car in the company or not, i wouldn’t be buying a Nissan in the first place. But that’s just if i was old, rich, and retarded ;D
most people who can afford the GTR dont care. most will be bought and used as boulevard cruisers like the common Porsche is by some white haired rich guy. and there is a big price difference between 78k for the GTR and 105+ for the ZR1… and if you had the money sure you might do something else with the money, but you dont so you cant make the comparison in that fashion… to race the car as Nissan intended doesnt require the VDC to be turned off. circuit racing doesnt need launch control since most circuit racing utilize the rolling grid for the start… the car wasnt designed to be a 1/4 mile slayer.
ditto… id be more then furious… id drive the thing do the dealer and thru the showroom window where i got it, park it with the keys still in it, walk down to the ford dealership.
one problem with the this 80k car is have fun trying to hit higher then 120mph on a normal road or highway because the car is GPS Goverend at 120mph and will turn off once you drive onto any type of raceway. they had this on top gear and that was the only thing the guy had an issue with on a normal road but other then that at the track amazing car.
It has an anti-Nick Hogan device built right in. :crackup
