The gift I gave myself

i kept seeing this thing for sale on FB. nice pickup

no i’m not the lsa one, we did discuss it as an option, but I just upgraded the bolt on tvs1900 I already had.

i think i ran into you on the hwy a few weeks ago? Maybe it was the PO lol

Yeah im trying to get the girl to write me another bill of sale for less to not feel like im throwing away $800 at the dmv… But she hasnt replied to me yet.

I figured I would come in here to find out you had herpes or something
do you like this more than the TA ?

I havent driven it since the test drive other than moving it in the drive way lol

But it felt nice, drove good. Interior is nice. I might get it on the road soon if i can get the seller to make a bill of sale for less, because the car needs tires bad, so if that doesnt happen ill wait til next year.

So got some stock 17s from the salvage yard in tonawanda, forgot to grab the center caps, but dont worry ill get them soon. The rims have good tires and it was cheaper to buy them, compared to buying tires for those crap rims the car came with. Also found out one of them is bent slightly(the TSWs the car came with, not the stock rims). Still need to get these rims balanced though…

But i cleaned it today, paint looks decent, but far from perfect. Hopefully a good buff will take out some of the scratches.

I dig.

Oh and i need to removal the side window tint because i dont want to get a ticket and hate not being able to see at night

So much better already

Thanks. Also need to take care of a dead baby fetus smell from the passenger front carpet… Anyone recommend any products or method to remove the odor?

I might make a thread about it if i dont get much traffic with the question here.

Have Delta Sonic or somewhere with an extractor clean the carpet?

I would also try and track down the source if its puddling water or some shit from a leak or some drain channel is clogged up.

I dont think its from water getting in the car, i think something was spilled or a baby was born and afterbirth tucked under the seat.

But i will check for any of those possible issues. Is there a place other than delta sonic that can clean/shampoo the carpet?

my Xterra had a similar rotting flesh smell. me and the wife pulled the seats and we used a small carpet shampooer and q-tips to clean out the heater vent under the floor… ended up being spilled milk (chocolate milk?) in the carpet and vent. its much better now
Your welcome to barrow the carpet cleaner, if your local. I would offer to do it but life is crazy busy right now.

Thanks for the offer. Im local, south towns area.

So the carpet smell went away from using a vinegar/water/ laundry detergent solution that i sprayed on the carpet and let soak. I also believe i poured some baking soda over it. But i dont truly remember since i did it right before i put it away in November. Either way, the smell is gone.

Another problem the car had was while driving the steering wheel shook at speeds above 35mph. I thought maybe it was since my rims/tires weren’t balanced, but i checked my strut mounts and found them in very rough shape.

Spoke with Ron at the local fbody/gto salvage yard to see if he had any aftermarket suspension stuff that was in good shape.

Normally i would buy brand new stuff but im juggling 2 projects and my savings took a hit when my dog got sick and needed surgery.

So ron had a pair of strut assemblies that already had the whiteline strut mounts i was planning to buy, and they look practically new!

So swapped them out. Car feels so much better, just a slight steering wobble probably from the alignment or tires/wheels not being balanced.

Also needed to change the transmisson and diff fluids to make sure its fresh, and also install the hinson motorsports short throw shifter.

Took the car to my pal Norbs!

He has a couple more pictures, but heres the cyber grey metallic diff fluid coming out…

Filled the diff with Torco racing gear oil 85w140 with f type friction modifier per recommendations since the car isnt like most gms being from Australia.

Unfortunately the diff still sounds terrible, so i plan to buy a lower mile used one from the salvage yard. Unless rebuilding and doing a gear change is cheaper or close to the cost of a good used diff.

We also fixed my exhaust which was tac welded at the joints even though it was lined up crooked. Now it sounds great since the exhaust leaks are gone, and the exhaust tips are straight! I’ll have to take some more pictures of them.

Big thanks to Norb helping me out, we accomplished a lot!

 looking great. make sure that shifter knob is on tight dude!

Cyclone grey metallic, not cyber.

Haha, at first i thought it looked cool, but now it explains why it still sounds like shit.

I was referring to Cyclone Grey Metallic being a color offered on 05/06 GTO’s.
