yea thats expensive as hellll - im going to make another fail thread now
sorry for messing up your build thread dog, im just jealous. now im thinking of a title for my new fail thread
LOL, awesome. Actually the ID tag is still in the trunk. I believe the code was supposed to be G80 and I have G87. So super GH3Y for me, but it’s an easy fix.
soooo no more 1 wheel peel sweet
hmm some montes and cutlass broghams had 8.5 rears you might get lucky if you look around.
only some hurst/olds, 442’s, monte ss, and gns had the 8.5 posi. no broughams came with it factory, and expect to pay some serious $$$ for the 8.5 posi, some full rears go for 1000 and up
no cars really deserved them cause they all had 305s and the 442 had a 307 which is a big terd… i have HEARD broghams had them not swearing by it.
my favorite forum, i keep my mouth shut over there tho haha
" If you don’t have the codes with you to indentify if it is an 8.5" or not, you can measure the distance between the very bottom bolt for the cover and the next adjacent one (either right of left), it will be 3 ¾" for a 8.5" and 3 1/4" for a 7.5".
All 1978 and up Olds came with 7.5" 10 bolts, no 12 bolts (Chevy or Olds) whatsoever. So guys with 1978 and up G bodies had a few options: beef up the 7.5" with better axles and a good posi unit, or find an 8.5" out of an 83-84 HO, 85-85 442, or 84 and up T-Type or GN"
IS this saying some HO Olds had 8.5 inch? cuz the 442 was 85-86
his is a shelf in the garage now. its covered, but things are stacked on it. doors and 1/4s are getting really bad he said last i talked to him. its a shame. that thing has pretty low miles.
SICK!! love GNs!!!
Thanks for the love again. I’m glad to see so many people who are into this type of car! I suppose you can’t really let go of the classics, lol. The chassis code I believe was G87 which should be the 8.5" ring gear 10-bolt with 3:42 gears. I’m working my way to the back of the car, but first thing’s first. Today I got the Fuel Pump, the new temp sender, timing cover gaskets, timing chain, and new plugs. Oh yeah, and a new O2 sensor… just a stock narrow band so nothing exciting there. I’m taking a few things apart to sandblast them and repaint them. Here’s to tomorrow’s work!
good luck!
iirc, all h/o’s had the 8.5, most were posi if not all. now, im not sure if all 442s had the 8.5 but i know some did.
i may have a posi unit for ya worked well when pulledits a auburn unit obv aftermarket ,came out of a 87 g/n ill look tomorow and see if i still got it or its among the missing

ah nvm, what was i thinking i only have the 7.5 rear:retardclap unless you have a 8.5 housing by chance?
