All the ingredients of a novel. Shop punks hero. Takes money, doesn’t do work and won’t give car back. Hero stakes out shop. Can see car but can’t get to it. Calls cops and reports car stolen. After 4 day stakeout catches villain and calls cops again. Hero gets car back.
Friends of hero say “find a motor, bring car to track and we will swap engine in hours because we are mighty and can overcome all obstacles in our way”.
Hero says “I am not worthy of such friends, but I will find a motor and get it to the track”. Hero thinks “These are such terrific people. Too bad they are insane.”
In 4hrs motors are swapped. 4hrs later and after much gnashing of teeth new motor runs. Fluid leaks cause some struggles but hero races the next day.
It amazes me that shops, especially performance shops, think they can get away with crap like this. It’s like they have never heard of the internet before.
It’s not all about getting his money back. He had to back out of several instructor gigs ticking off event coordinators. He lost track time leading into the season opener, which he had to run with a junk yard motor installed at the track by a bunch of other racers (great community btw).
Scott seems like a nice guy, sucks when people take advantage of someone like that.
This is not all that different than my father with his 4-year ordeal with Randy Ames (formerly of Phoenix Imports).
That was more of the point I was getting at. I’ve obviously never met this person, but it seems like he was being pretty timid about the whole situation. Someone more assertive could have been far more convincing.
It’s hard to be convincing when the car is that far away from you. It’s not like he could just “drop in” because he was in the neighborhood. But I agree, let people walk all over you and they will.
Handed Well, but the fact that he waited so long, and then when he finally confronts the guy, still lets the dude get the best of him makes him look like a HUGE pussy, I agree being a hot headed prick isnt the answer, but this guy was barley even persistent, Waiting for 4 days basically in front of the guys shop, Unreal.
Really though, until it really happens to you you don’t know what you’d do. It’s typically very difficult to get the money back from a shitty shop and I think he took the right steps so he can do that.
Right, not wanting to let people walk all over me makes me a bad ass. Again, I obviously don’t have all the details from the situation, but it SEEMS like he wasn’t taking as much action as he could have, or as fast as he could have.
