The Healthcare Reform Thread

I heard a doctor say that something like 75% of the service costs are self inflicted due to lifestyle. That really put the cost into perspective for me. They could base how much they charge on obesity, drug use, smoking, etc. If you weigh more than 300# you should pay at least $100,000/year.lol We base auto insurance on risk. Discuss.

Edit: Fat people may be a bad example because they die so young it may actually be cheaper.lol

The elderly would never let that happen, they vote too much. If we based how much they charged on all of those things, we’d have to use age too. Similar to life insurance. A 20 year old 300lb smoker still will use less medical care than your typical 80 year old.

^You can’t control your age. It is not self inflicted. Saying “we’d have to use age too” is simply not true.

Edit: Smokers should pay at LEAST $50,000/year.

Obesity is not always self inflicted, either. There are many medical conditions that cause it.
You’re going on the auto insurance model, and that absolutely does use things that are not self-inflicted. You can’t just cherry-pick the ones that benefit you.

^I didn’t say to make it exactly like the auto insurance but there are some obvious things that cost everyone a shit ton of money that could be avoided.

There already are different prices for smokers and non-smokers on my work’s plans. The difference is marginal though. ($200 a year)

what kills my about my corporation’s sign up this year is that you have two options for smoker:

(1) you are a smoker

(2) you are a non-smoker OR plan to attempt to quit smoking sometime during the coming year (save $300)

who would pick option 1?

Mine has the same option but you have to commit to some type of smoking cessation program and show proof or some shit.

People that burn up(pun intended) hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year on smokes are not going to quit over $200.

I think healthcare should be based on what you put in, which is basically how it is now. Those who work more pay less, those who work less pay more. Those who don’t work get nothing (exceptions to those who have disabilities)

Does the latest version still have the fine and possible jail time if you don’t pay.
That is the kind of thing that should not exist in this country.
Going to jail if you don’t want insurance?!?

The no denial for pre-existing conditions can only work if there’s a mandate to get insurance. Otherwise no one will get insurance until they get sick, and bankrupt the insurers.

Here we go…

 two more rounds to go

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said that the federal government is not capable of running many of the programs it is already responsible for, and should not be trusted with more responsibilities for Americans’ health care: "We have talked to mothers who say, ‘You can’t even get the H1-N1 vaccine out there and you think you’re going to handle the health care for my children?’ " Manufacturers have not been able to supply enough of the vaccine because of the difficulty of producing it.

look at this face:

It’s the face of a moron.

 socialism

Hopefully some people will grow a backbone and stop the passing of this until it is actually read and options are discussed. I completely agree that the whole industry needs an overhaul, but to pass this for the sake of being able to say they did something is bullshit.

:bloated:

I’m sorry, your right everyone should just blindly play follow the leader.

Who told you that nobody has read it and no options have been discussed, since that is the basis of your opposition?
