THE **iPhone** Thread (GPS, JailBreak, Apps, Etc)

i use to be on tmobile but hated it cause no 3g so you are stuck on edge and their crappy service

Yea but its cheap lol, like is it that bad my buddy has it and said hes had no problems my main concern is the internet and stuff is it that slow? doubt it can be worse then my sprint blackberry

well its not fast thats for sure, i always would try to find wifi everywhere i went cause it wold take a year to download anything

plus you always have to wait to update phone and when i say wait i mean like a few months, but it might have gotten faster now i dont know. i just hated always waiting and getting locked out it i updated

The fact is that the hardware in the old models of the iPhone and the iPod touch fully supports multitasking. By changing a single text line in a preferences file—the property list N82AP.plits—you can enable the new multitasking abilities in the new iPhone OS 4.

Again, fuck you Apple.

OMG how surprising, I can’t believe it…

The more I see steve jobs, use my macbook, see these Mac keynotes, the more I never want to hear or see another mac product.

right we already knew this so i hope this is not suppose to be news

Did you bother reading the rest of the article?

So why has Apple decided not to enable it? Most probably it is a matter of resources. The original iPhone, the iPhone 3G , and iPod touch 1st and 2nd generation have a quite slower CPU compared to the 3GS and third generation iPod touch. What is more important: They have a very limited RAM space, only 128 megabytes.

That probably makes multitasking slower than what Steve Jobs and Co. find acceptable. If an user keeps opening applications, it will probably affect the experience so much that many will be unhappy very fast. The question is: Shouldn’t be this an option available in the system preferences? Most probably, Apple thought the benefits will never be enough even for advanced users, and the feature would confuse and frustrate normal consumers, opening a potential customer support nightmare.

Makes complete sense to me.

Ditto.

Of course I bothered to read it. The article is titled “The Reason Why Apple Is Not Enabling Multitasking In Old iPhones and iPods” so it only stands to reason that they will address that topic somewhere.

All that still doesn’t mean I have to agree with Apples obvious motivation. This ad embodies the Apple philosophy of “consumer = idiot” that drives their decision-making and which I despise. http://www.apple.com/iphone/gallery/ads/#concert-large

refusing to design by committee is not the same as calling the consumer an idiot.

did you know that the first car designed by committee was the Pontiac Aztec… once somebody tells you this, it makes a lot more sense the next time you see one.

well just saw that the first gen iphone might not get the 4.0 update, you going to get all upset about that too?

And here it is… iPhone 4.

Higher resolution screen, front facing camera, better rear camera, camera flash, bigger battery, completely flat case.

Steve Jobs must be PISSED that someone lost this thing.

The one thing that article didn’t give me… do they have my coveted 64gb size I want

Another article I read said it was reporting 80gb before Apple remote disabled it.

Welp, apple has me hooked for another two years, my contract is up in June, I’ll be getting it.

Haha yep. Me too. I am very glad tho I skipped the 3GS and can get this one at the discount

Same here lol, my poor 3G is definitely due for a replacement

Ditto. My 3G just recovered from taking the plunge…into the toilet. Upgrade in August, hopefully it lasts that long.

Hmm well I have a 3GS, I could probly sell it, get out of my contract with the money and then sign a new contract for the new iphone… But that’s if there’s not a better phone by then.

Sucessfully booted Android on iPhone 2G. Port to 3G and 3GS possible with some work in the future.
