Besides iweathr and Dynolicious what else do u guys recommend me to dl. I just started w the phone and it’s not jb
You’re better off not messing with it because when you break it I will have to fix it. A lot if this crap is unstable and a lot of people can’t troubleshoot or handle it. If you want your phone to work perfectly all the time, don’t jailbreak.
If you’re just looking for good apps, think of something you’d want to do and then look for it. I just added my mph to my maps. Small but fun I guess.
Lol… My phones have always been jailbroken, as soon as the untether was available since the 3G. If you stay away from the theme crap its just as stable as a stock phone.
I can’t stand being without LockInfo, which is a JB only app.
Apps I use a lot:
jaadu rdp
Weatherbug elite
Imdb
M&T bank app
Tomtom nav
Facebook
Slacker
Delivery status touch
Air video
Lap timer pro
I’ve never used a theme, only tweaks and apps and there is too much crap available that unless you stick with like 3 or 4 things you’re bound to find a bad one.
Everyone I know has had to respring at one time or another. My wife hasn’t even turned her phone off in 2 years, let alone had an actual problem. No jailbreak is as stable as stock. If it is, you’re doing it wrong.
A few of you might appreciate this
So it transfers unencrypted packages over an unsecure link? Sounds about right for Apple.
Meh. I am not too worried. OTA with a modified system hash aka. jailbroken you are lucky if you can even get a download to work properly. Apple runs its checks on the software and your device before installing similar to iTunes would do. We ran into this issue when they started doing OTA on the 5.0 betas and had been testing jailbroken applications.
Due to filesystem checks (which are explained later) it is difficult to install an OTA update while jailbroken. To get around this annoying check, one can download a OTA update, not install, then jailbreak and examine the files.
The pre.bom and post.bom contain snapshots of how the root filesystem should look before and after installation. This is what prevents users from installing OTA updates with a jailbroken device.
Ah the article validates my point. It would take quite a bit of work to exploit this. You would need to fake the update server and serve the modified IPSW file for the update. Even if it did download, the filesystem hashs would need to match exactly which anyone who has already jailbroken and allows applications to run outside of their userland and system partition will not match. It does run as a system update process with elevated permissions but it would take a lot of work for someone to use this for bad on a non jailbroken phone due to the modified system partitions. The only possible way I can think of is if they engineered a way to prevent the filesystem checks which again would need user interaction to modify their iOS to block it.
Cliffs, you’re still far more likely to catch the digital herp from androids open app market than a hacked and spoofed OTA update on your iPhone.
Probably true, but the android ones are usually on really weird apps that like <1% of people would download.
Android is mess for security
I do really like the new Droiz RZR but installing an app on Android is like banging a girl from Brockport without a condom. So many apps want access to all your data and are caught for sending external data out to their servers like all your phone book info.
So since there is a jailbreak out for updated iPhone 4 is there still a decent teather app? I wouldent be using it all the time but maybe a few times a month for my iPad and maybe once or twice for the laptop. Not to worried about getting cought I’ll just stop if I ever get the letter saying I an using the web in a suspicious manor.
I laughed so hard when I read this. Bravo, sir.
I use TetherMe. Use it very rarely and haven’t had any “we’re going to charge you for tethering” notices.
I think PDAnet is the only 5 compatible program out there. I am not sure what else is in the store that does it since providers found new ways to track usage for non iPhone destined traffic.
I aim to please.
Just got the jailbreak for my 4s. Not sure what to do now. Any helpful tips you could give me? I don’t want to start messing around with it and screw something up.
Would jail breaking my iPhone 4 allow me to use my hot spot for free? I currently pay for it and always go over the 2 gigs
If you’re using it that much AT&T will definitely detect the jailbreak hotspot and just end up kicking you back on the tethering plan.
im on verizon, and i havent really heard of anyone having any problems, but then again its not something that customers usually talk about lol
so what are the benefits of jailbreaking a phone then?
Look through the categories in Cydia and find stuff you like. If what you like is money, add better sources and steal them.
