THE **iPhone** Thread (GPS, JailBreak, Apps, Etc)

I think a major point of contention is that the average user blindly looks at the iphone’s new features and assumes the iphone was the first/best to do something. When the reality is that Android had it first (regardless of which is best). IMO, the Android users/community would just like to see some acknowledgment for doing something well.

The average user doesn’t give a fuck

They don’t sit on forums debating which phone is better or which one is rootable.

Everyone loves Apple stuff because it just fucking works, its usually nice to look at, and its higher quality then plastic phones.

and frankly, the same thing happens when Google does I/O.

Here is the real test of whether or not something is truely awesome. Tell your significant other about it. If they get excited, you might be onto something. If they respond by saying, “oh, what’s the big deal with that”, then you’ve probably got a dud on your hands.

I think the icons they used are god awful. I haven’t really looks at much else aside from a few slides. But the gradients they chose for those icons are disgusting.

oh yeah, don’t get me wrong. I get that, totally. I’m just saying that it pisses off enthusiasts of other OS’s/ecosystems lol.

I’m a huge nerd and I find it hilarious people complaining about little details on their smart phones.

Battery life, Call quality, texting, emailing, and web browsing anything after that is an added bonus.

Icons are just icons. They’re dynamic, and they change. Just wait until App Store apps are on a device co-mingled with the current. They will all look terrible together. It’s not that big of a deal.

correct. you’re missing just two things though. App Ecosystem and UI Responsiveness.

It’s the same thing with people who want something ground breaking from OSX development.

OSX works ten times better then any Windows machine I have ever had I don’t need them to reinvent the wheel(Like MS tried doing with Windows 8)

I also prefer the incremental updates. Over time it actually ends up changing things quite a bit.

I think Mavericks looks like a great release.

If that new MacPro isn’t $5000 I might get one

Edit: I also didn’t realize iOS 7 changes the default search from Google -> Bing

The only people i hear complaining about iOS or OSX not being revolutionary enough are the fanboys from the other side.

And yeah, thank god neither was a complete overhaul like Windows 8.

It’s going to be $5k by the time you load it up with Thunderbolt Accessories lol.

Yeah it’s a minor thing, but they aren’t “professional” looking.

Windows 8 is trash, hopefully they at least make some progress with Windows Blue.

Microsoft puts out a good OS every other release…

I really think the feature everyone is looking for is a battery that lasts. I would consider jumping ship to apple if the battery life was like a day and a half with a good usage.

Im not sure when the last time youve messed around with a quality android product, but i can tell you after working with them every day for my job, the android is less prone to apps crashing or any issues.

actually sold my i5 for the s4 and dont regret it one bit!

I have an S3 with the latest official updates available.

About every 5th time using a GPS nav app (either snowmobile or tomtom) it won’t get a lock without a reboot. Known issue:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-note-lte/586220-gps-lock-problems.html

Every 10th time or so copy and pasting the phone reboots. Known issue:
http://www.android.gs/copy-paste-bug-reboots-samsung-galaxy-s3-galaxy-note-2-and-other-samsung-devices/

It refuses to keep Swiftkey as my default keyboard after a reboot. Known issue:
http://support.swiftkey.net/knowledgebase/articles/122554-default-keyboard-reset-on-every-restart-or-reboot-

It will randomly decide to rape my battery because I don’t constantly end task my apps, something I never had to do in iOS.

It’s pretty much impossible to see in direct sunlight even with the brightness up to the max. I tried to defend it last weekend on the boat saying all color panels are like that in the sun and my wife pulled out her iPhone and sure enough it was much better.

You can’t email or MMS a video shot on the phone, it has no way to compress it to an acceptable size on the fly. I’m sure there is some 3rd party bullshit you can hunt down and install to do something the OS should do on it’s own.

Automated idiot proof backup built in? lol, why would you want that?

Ability to locate, lock and wipe your phone built into the OS? That’s just silly, you should cobble that together from a bunch of inferior 3rd party apps from the play store instead.

Text message pictures show up as videos half the time, even though they aren’t videos or GIF’s. Known issue, you should just get a 3rd party MMS app (seriously you can’t even make something that’s as core as MMS on a fucking smartphone work stock?!):

And I’ll take the iPhones battery life over this S3 any day. My brother in law got rid of his S3 and went back to the iPhone 5 over battery life. He takes great pride in asking me what percentage my battery is at every time he comes over, and my usual response is, “it’s great, because it’s sitting on the charger over there”.

It’s really hard to review battery life off of a single person or even multiple people.

Its based on Apps, GPS, and so many other factors.

Agreed. It’s unfair for me to compare my old iPhone 4’s battery to the S3 since the S3 is so much more powerful which is why I brought up my b-inlaw who had a 4s, went to an S3, then back to the iPhone 5 because he was so unimpressed by the S3’s battery performance.

I know every morning in the 15 minutes or so it takes me to check my email, FB and news I’ve taken my S3 from 100 to 87-89% consistently. I’ve NEVER been able to drop any iPhone, regardless of model, that far that fast doing simple web surfing over wifi.

Very true, but I’m sure we could come up with an average usage amount. I’d like a phone that can handle texts, emails, calls, Surfing the web, streaming music and playing games without worrying about charging it that day.
