THE **iPhone** Thread (GPS, JailBreak, Apps, Etc)

Ya I like being able to just copy music to my device in iFile and BiteSMS. Also I have a lot of visual tweaks that help my productivity like more icons on my home screen and dock.

Just ordered a 5S

Wife is hating the new calendar app. Other than that seems fine with 7.

Went and got a 5s this morning. Only had to get to verizon an hour early to get a decent spot in line and get to work without being too late.

Sexy Sexy. I was burnt out on Android. Lets see how long I can do iPhone for without getting sick of it.

Boom

meaningless… you’d have to get my fingerprint, then get my phone away from me. The main goal is to stop strangers from finding your unlocked phone and gaining access.

I’ll care when they can get into a phone without knowing who owned it.

Lift a print off a mostly glass phone? This technology gives people a false sense of security and mobile is moving towards more mobile payments

Your missing the big point biometrics suck

TouchID = fail

They didn’t really even do anything different than other fingerprint vendors, they just used a higher resolution image.

After reading the process that involves lifting the print, scanning it in high res, cleaning it up with imaging software, reversing it, printing it with an extra thick toner and finally using that print as a cast for glue or some specialized resin that then has to cure I think 99% of people would have already remotely wiped their phone before the fake finger was made, especially if they were using the phone as an e-wallet.

The point isn’t to make the phone 100% hack proof, it’s to give you secure access without the pain in the ass of having to type in a 4 digit code every time you want to use it. Nothing is 100%, but you can make something a big enough PITA that it’s not worth it for the slim chance you might get someone’s e-wallet before they remote lock/wipe the phone.

I like the new iOS7 on my 4S, but really disappointed that they didn’t put in a power/reboot button like I had on my jailbreak. It was super handy when I could use that. My top power button is broken so it would be really convenient to be able to reboot my phone…without turning it off and back on by my broken power button.

9 million iPhones sold since launch day. :jawdrop:

You can use AssistiveTouch to add a software power button. Did this for a week on the wife’s phone until we had a chance to get a free AppleCare replacement.

Just searched the App store for it, no luck. Where do I find it?

Gotcha. Man this is a pain in the ass. How do I set a gesture for an on/off button. Not seeing anywhere that lets me do it.

You’re making this more difficult that it needs to be…

Enable Assistive Touch: Tap SETTINGS, General, Accessibility, AssistiveTouch (near the bottom) and tap AssistiveTouch to ON. You will now notice a small dark square with a circle in the middle (you can move this square anywhere). Tap the dark circle to open the assistiveTouch menu, then tap Device and tap and HOLD the Lock Screen icon. This will bring up the iPhone’s Power-Off slider - no need for a power button any longer! **Voted Best Method to turn off an iPhone with a broken power button

Yeah I figured that out after I posted that. Didn’t know I had to hold the lock screen selection. Anyways, thanks!

I also changed it so that I can press the home button 3x to show or hide the assistivetouch menu.

I’m sure the FBI/police departments are upgrading the DPI on all their finger print scanners now

The court can’t compel you to give up your password however they can just use your finger print.

Then turn it off and use passcode only if you’re so paranoid. Damn…

I love touchID. I never used passcode before. Now I don’t have to think about it. When I pull it out of my pocket my thumb is on there and its open by the time I raise it up. And it works very well.

If someone needs to do all those crazy steps to hack my phone it would be wiped already. But at least now they had to do stupid steps to try to fake my finger print instead of just “slide to unlock” with my iP5 which gives me more time.

Great?

Lots of things people don’t see as a big deal end up becoming much larger issues.

The evolution here is many more products start using biometrics as a single factor of authentication and then allow payments directly from phones…The way to to break the 5S finger print auth came out days after the release that doesn’t mean there won’t be simpler ways.

Phones are very quickly moving towards viable replacements for credit cards etc

And btw If a phone is stolen its not rocket science to keep it off a cell network to avoid remote wipe

You’re making a big deal because security actually got better? Before most people didn’t even use a passcode.
