THE **iPhone** Thread (GPS, JailBreak, Apps, Etc)

exactly… and even then you have to be able to know a phone belongs to a certain person and get their finger print.

You’re right how would someone ever lift a print off a device that has a surface made of 95% glass

It hasn’t gotten “better” was my point

The idea is finger prints for security is a bad direction to take and pushing a huge consumer market towards it is asking for trouble.

How do you go about changing finger prints if there is ever a compromise? And just like with everything Apple im sure there will be a “Ooops we didn’t realize this latest update backed up everyone fingerprints to iCloud”

Perhaps its not us peasants that hes talking about but more celebs/rich/powerful people.

stealing my fingerprint wont get you too far, but i’d bet the prints of the executive board of any random fortune 100 company might be worth something on the black market.

It’s hilarious the levels of security people want on a phone because they might use it as wallet to store credit cards. Aren’t you walking around right now with a real wallet full of credit cards, a drivers license and cash that has no security what so ever? I’ll take an e-wallet with a finger print scanner that you have to spend hours making a fake finger to access over my leather wallet that you simply have to take the credit card out of.

In my lifetime of owning cell phones I’ve lost one twice. Once was a moto-razr at a car dealership in OP that fell out of my pocket test driving a GTO. I called it and the dealership answered and said I could pick it up at customer service. 2nd time was my current S3. Must have left it on the back of the boat while working on the trailer in my driveway. Made it 2 blocks away before it fell off. A guy picked it up in his driveway and called the last 2 people in my recent calls list, who then got a hold of me through my wife. The guy even dropped it off and refused the finders fee I tried to give him. Had the phone been PIN locked I probably wouldn’t have gotten it back.

This seems about as good of time as any.

I will just leave this right here…

My point was in the big long term picture finger prints is a really bad direction to take security towards.

Where ever there is a debate, you’ll find LZ standing on one side…lol

Can we have a motion for a change from “Resident hacker” to “Master Debater”?

For high security stuff definitely. For locking my phone because it’s taking over duty of my completely unsecured wallet… completely disagree. If all my cards are stored on my phone and the phone is stolen, regardless of how it’s secured, I’m still going to be canceling the cards and getting new ones. The only difference is a fingerprint lock is going to stop 99.9% of criminals compared to my leather wallet that won’t stop anyone.

You realize this is what I do this for a living?

I advise companies from SMB to Fortune 100 on implementing security lol

my problem with this is with iTunes however because you can make purchases with iTunes just using your finger…so when someone takes your phone and then they unlock it with a fake print and them make a purchase using your print how are you going to argue that it was not you when it was “your finger” that made the purchase?

I understand this…

My issue with Apple is once finger prints are compromised they’re gone forever so lets make this giant push towards finger print based biometrics with a bunch of companies who don’t take security extremely serious.

Apple does stuff and everyone else usually follows

I don’t know anything about you other than staying clear of debating with you when possible.

I’d imagine will be like filing for any other fraudulent purchase. Before you get there though, explain to me exactly who is going to go through the trouble of stealing your phone and faking your finger print just to buy some apps from itunes? Apps that will still be linked to you not the criminal no less.

So fault Apple for something that works surprisingly well because Samsung or Google are going to release one a year from now that will work half as well?

Like I said I won’t be surprised when a year from now the when finger print that was supposed to stay just on the phone was copied somewhere else.

You just want to fucking argue! :stuck_out_tongue:
#middlefingerprint

Fixed

5S just showed up

Now im torn if I will use the Lumia 1020 vs 5S

when did you order the 5S? I thought they said like 3 weeks to arrive?

NSA really wanted my fingerprints.

I ordered 9/20 it said a few weeks then got a “It shipped” 9/22.

doh, I had my finger on the trigger to do that and decided I could find one locally faster. I lose.
