THE **iPhone** Thread (GPS, JailBreak, Apps, Etc)

http://www.modmyi.com/forums/iphone-news/529211-iphone-3-0-jailbroken-already.html

Of course this wouldnt include any type of SIM unlock. But for standard AT&T users, im sure it will be a relatively smooth transition to 3.0

Jailbroken is software that uses a exploit in the hardware. There will be no stopping the jailbreak method without a hardware revision to the iPhone 3G.

For example, iPod Touch 1g was one method and 2g was another method since they have different hardware.

The baseband software is a completely different entity than the OS so it will require a new unlock and method to break into it. Yes, jailbreak is a step but there is a lot more work to go before this is even unlocked.

The company that designed the baseband and SIM interface bragged about how long it took devs to crack it. It was very complex and used a very secure method and I doubt they cut back on the effort for this release either.

No unlock, no care. I’ve been happy with AT&T so as long as I can still jailbreak I’m fine.

x2

i will be patiently waiting for the unlock thats all i have to say

If anyone is thinking about downloading the 3.0 beta release from a torrent, I strongly suggest against it. I almost grabbed it from the developer page on Apple and just read this in a PDF. This is from a Apple Dev Center PDF document:

And device updated to 3.0 for testing purposes will be permanently locked to testing only mode

Also, if you download a 3.0 beta from a torrent, you will not be able to sync or activate your phone with iTunes unless you have a developer connection account.

I am debating upgrading since I have a dev account but I am waiting until they say you can downgrade when I want to go back. I got to talk to a few people I know but I might be able to add your iTunes account to my Dev account and allows other people to activate it.

Downloading 3.0 beta now

IB4 “my phone isn’t working again”

Apple Developer Account

All legit. I just wonder if ATT is supporting all this stuff like MMS right now.

I know, I’ve got one too. I’m still not putting a beta OS on my phone that I need to work every day.

Are you an individual developer or team?

The team part when I signed up a few months back said you needed to prove your DBA and other documents and wondering if I have to send them right away before I get full access.

I am waiting to see if ATT supports the new features like MMS right away or if they do not go live until the public sees the software.

^ Just an individual. Did it to get the SDK then realized I needed a mac to use it. :roflpicard:

MMS is inactive at the ATT level. i.e. If you put your iPhone SIM in another phone that is MMS capable it still wont work.

I’m hoping that ATT doesnt slap another charge on my account if I want MMS on my iPhone once this 3.0 comes out.

I really am curious about this. ATT knows what your phone is capable when it does the sweeps becuase of the modem. The 2.2.1 was a 3.X.X release while the 3.0 upgrades you to a 4.20.01 release which I wonder identifies and advertises MMS capability to their network.

No. I have had the SDK for a while. Had a old Mac to work on but got rid of it. Probably going to get back into it with 3.0

I have a feeling with Apple touting the MMS capability of 3.0 that AT&T will simply enable it on the iphone data plans. Don’t forget that Apple has a lot of control over what goes on with this phone at AT&T.

Updating now. Will update shortly.

All up and running. MMS is not working but cut and paste is awesome.

JayS if you update, make sure your phone is in the Device management page. I forgot I removed mine a while back and forgot to add it and once I upgraded, phone didnt activate and had to dig through my files on my laptop trying to find my UDID

I updated and then reverted right back. It’s far from stable and the MMS doesn’t even work…upgrading is a waste of time just for copy/paste and losing the jailbreak sucks.

How did you revert since its locked into a developer mode? I know you can use QuickPwn and flash it back using DFU mode but you still have the new baseband which is where I have problems it seems. Calls that lasted more than 30 min tonight seemed to randomly drop. Firmware is good tho.

I have yet to have a problem and I have been abusing the shit out of this. Runs great, MMS is disabled but that’s an ATT thing which I don’t care. I like a lot of their interface changes with the phonebook.

I really didn’t expect MMS to be enabled by Att this early. They’ll probably switch it on before the 3.0 launch date for testing but no need for it this early.

I won’t be updating until the official release.
