You cant like everything on a car these days because of how wild and unique they make them. But I love the look of this car. Sure I would go with different rims, and also only allow them to be made and imported from Japan… but damn I cant wait to see this on the road!

I personally love the NSX! And it would appear that honda has addressed all of the flaws of the previous models. Doubt that Id be able to afford one but its still nice to see that some of the nice classics are making a comeback.

We spoke with American Honda CEO and president Tetsuo Iwamura about the decision to develop and manufacture the NSX here in the U.S., and he told us that the decision was made for three reasons. The first is that Honda is committed to building cars in the market in which they are sold. The U.S. is the largest market for the NSX, although he said the car will be exported to Japan and other markets.

When asked if there was any concern that Japanese customers might have objections to a Japanese supercar built in the U.S., Iwamura said, “You don’t have to be so modest. American-built cars have a power, even in Japan.”

The second factor was that Honda has had positive experiences with product development of other models here in the States. Iwamura specifically mentioned the North American market-only Pilot and Odyssey as examples. The third reason for the decision to build the NSX here is that Honda believes its Ohio manufacturing facilities produce high-quality products and wants to take advantage of that expertise. Iwamura also said that assigning the halo car to the U.S. would be motivational for its American employees.

2015 Acura NSX To Get Unique Longitudinal, Twin-Turbo V6

Just the Facts:

-After months of speculation, Acura finally confirms that the new NSX will be turbocharged.

-The 2015 NSX will also have three electric motors and a dual-clutch transmission with “more than six gears.”

-Unlike the first-generation NSX, the new Acura’s engine will be mounted longitudinally.

TOKYO — Confirming months of speculation, Honda officially unveiled the 2015 Acura NSX’s V6, armed with a pair of turbochargers.

Acura wouldn’t confirm any details or specs on the car other than that the engine will be unique to the NSX and not simply an Accord motor in a pretty package. Just from looking, however, we can tell this V6 is just under 90 degrees and features dry-sump lubrication and direct injection. Assuming a displacement of 3.7 liters, combined with the car’s three electric motors, 550 horsepower sounds reasonable, if not conservative.

But the big news here is how the engine is positioned within the car. Unlike the original NSX, the new production model will have its engine mounted longitudinally and not transversely.

Hideki Wakamatsu, Honda’s operating officer and chief officer of technology development for drivetrain and e-drive told Edmunds that the change from a transverse layout to the longitudinal one happened recently after extensive testing, but that the change would not delay the anticipated on-sale date of 2015.

Not only does this layout simplify packaging (look at how much material is behind the engine now), but Wakamatsu says that the car is dynamically improved with this configuration.

The Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C, two of the NSX’s benchmark competitors, also use a longitudinal midengine layout.

Those of you who are familiar with NSX history will know that this isn’t the first time an NSX has gone longitudinal, as the Super GT racing NSX also featured this layout.

Edmunds says: Switching a vehicle’s drivetrain configuration during development is a massive undertaking, and proof perhaps that Honda is just as concerned as we are about the 2015 Acura NSX being as good as the original.

UTSUNOMIYA, Japan – Honda Motor Co., as if to underscore its commitment to downsized, turbocharged engines, unveiled a mock-up of the powertrain for its next NSX that relies on twin turbos to provide a power boost.

The mock-up was on display at a media event at Honda’s global r&d center here before the Tokyo Motor Show.

The redesigned all-wheel-drive NSX, due in 2015, has – according to the mock-up – a V-6 engine with twin turbos as part of what Honda calls its Sport Hybrid-All Wheel Drive system.

The SH-AWD system uses a three-motor hybrid system to redirect power, when the car is turning, from the inner wheel to the outer one to improve handling and performance.

The front wheels get one electric motor each, while the third is integrated into the engine as a motor-generator.

Honda officials declined to give the size of the V-6, but said it would not necessarily be larger than the 3.5-liter V-6 on today’s Acura RLX. It will be combined with a dual-clutch transmission, but officials said the company had not yet decided how many gears it would have.

Honda has a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and plans to introduce an eight-speed gearbox.

A lithium ion battery pack sits in front of the engine, which is mounted longitudinally rather than the transverse setup common in most front-wheel-drive vehicles.

The Tokyo Motor Show’s press days are Wednesday, Nov. 20, and Thursday, Nov. 21; the show opens to the public on Saturday, Nov. 23.

2015 Acura NSX Chief Engineer Answers Fan Questions: Video

Acura’s latest concept previewing its new NSX sports car made its European debut this week at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show, and on hand to present the concept and talk about the production version was the car’s chief engineer Ted Klaus. He’s featured in the video above, answering a number of questions submitted by fans on Acura’s social media pages.
Topics include the development goals of the second-generation NSX, how the hybrid element benefits the car, and how the new NSX will maintain the character of the original launched more than two decades ago.

We’ve previously chatted to Klaus, who is based at the newly-established Performance Manufacturing Center at Honda’s facility in Marysville, Ohio. He and his team are focused on an extremely favorable power-to-weight ratio as well as advanced technology for the NSX.

The key to the car’s performance will be its hybrid system, which Acura dubs the Sport Hybrid Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive system (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD). The system, similar to that used in Porsche’s 918 Spyder, combines a mid-mounted gas engine with an electric drive unit to form a through-the-road hybrid setup.

Two electric motors power the front wheels independently, while a third, integrated with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and 3.5-liter V-6, helps power the rear wheels. Powering the three electric motors is a central lithium-ion battery, mounted low to the ground and topped up with regenerative brakes.

Development of the second-generation NSX is well into the prototype stage, though the production version isn’t due until sometime in 2015.
