The New Rims

I’m not trying to mean even with the tongue cheek comment about the gauges.

The injector cleaner shit is just a waste like the instant oil station trying to get you to flush your coolant system every time.

If he didn’t want to do it him, that’s fine but when I hear them try and push these unneeded services, it bothers me.

hmmm maybe your not clear with whats going on…

Car has had a cylinder 5 misfire for about 2 weeks now. I scanned it a few times, and so did John at his shop. I replaced the spark plugs when I did my header install. Still did it. I swapped around the coils and plug wires…still did it. I swapped around the cylinder 5 and 1 injectors to see if the problem followed…still did it. I put in a new PCV valve, fuel filter and cleaned my MAF sensor because it was dirty as shit…ran beautiful for a few hours…then started doing it again…I brought it to the dealership, because my warranty voids in 30 miles. I didnt want it to turn out to be a valve spring, bent pushrod etc. Basically, I didnt want my warranty to run out and have it be a internal engine problem and end up replacing it for a shit load of money when it could have been covered under warranty for free. YEs I could have gapped the plugs myself seeing as I have done it 3947305 times…however I felt that, that wasnt the problem which is why I didnt do it since they were brand new plugs…

they also told me to put different plugs in…the ones in there are shit I guess.

always check the gaps on plugs even brand new. what are you using for plugs? AC Delco or NGK is what id expect for a car like yours.

well what happened was when I had the stock manifolds off and was doing the header install I went to the auto parts store to pick up some NGK TR55’s. They didnt have them in stock. Then They also didnt have any AC Delco’s either…I needed plugs fast to get the car together…I ended up getting Champion Irridiums…

Im gonna put the NGK TR55’s in it this weekend…I guess they are the plug to run in these cars.

chris from the dealership said to put in some AC Delco’s. He’s running them in his cammed T/A and hasnt had a single problem with them he said.

Edit: I think he said something about Pressure cleaning the injectors??? I just talked to him quickly on the phone and wasnt really paying attention.

the gm performance parts drag 2.0 turbo ecotec uses ac delco plugs. that says alot right there… iridium isnt bad if you have the proper heat range for your car, which im sure was the issue with those…

well they looked them up on the computer and told me what plugs would work…basically I ended up getting the plugs they had in stock because i needed them now. No big deal. I will drive around and find the ngk’s this weekend.

The plugs I pulled out of there were Denso Irridiums…they looked like shit tho

i use 2 dollar NGK copper plugs. the plug to use now with my kind of setup is a NGK BkR8eIX iridium, they are 7.50$ a plug. but im not about to spend the money on those unless im gonna run race gas.

I understand now.

If you swapped injectors and the same cylinder has the problem, you can eliminate that plugs. I’d be skeptical of clogged injectors but you swapped those too right? Even so, you have low mileage.

I’d try stock plugs with stock gap as your car has light mods to eliminate that. How are the wires?

Sounds like you have it right: electric or fuel.

see the thing is…im starting to lean towards it being a mechanical problem…if thats the case (bent push rod/cracked valve spring/burnt valve) Im not even gonna mess with the stock heads…C5 Z06 heads will go on it…

reason why im starting to think its mechanical is because the light started blinking again on the way to my girlfriends but then it went off. I dont know if it was bringing up a old code or what not but its weird…car does NOT feel like its misfiring at all when it says it is…and heres the catch…The SES light only starts to blink (misfire) when Im accelerating up a hill?? I have noticed this about 30 times and its really awkward…doesnt make since to me.

pretty much I have done everything I can electrical and fuel wise…and its still doing it…I will swap plugs and see if that has something to do with it…hopefully it does. Dont really want to get into a head swap yet.

+1 for NGK 55s in the LS1, you can usually find them in stock at Napa on central/wolf rd ext.

A friend of mine had a similar issue with a nagging misfire code on 1 cylinder, swapped everything around just like you. He ended up just buying EFI Live and turning the code off.

Smokin, i might have a set in my garage if you want them come grab em. Ill let you know if i find em.

please check…that would be awesome. I will give you both sets of my plugs for them if you want them…or let me know how much you want to sell them…

I also know people run the NGK TR6’s in these…Which is what I ran for boost in my V6…I have a ton at my house of them but Im not sure how well they really work on the LS1. Those plugs are like torches.

doesnt it still get shitty gas mileage and stuff tho? I mean even tho the SES is off, doesnt the computer still register that its still there???

the dealership said I had 45,000 counts of a misfire on cylinder 5.

A buddy of mine has HP Tuners for a 01 Z28…I will get ahold of that again if the new plugs dont fix the problem. If the new plugs dont fix it, im gonna pull the valve cover off on that side (driver side) just to make sure theirs no bent push rod or messed up valve spring…if their isnt, I will just shut the code off.

when i went down to the diesel drags at lvd there was a few duramax diesels with the efilive… pretty neat shit and clickin off 13’s on stock turbo and trapping consistent 103’s in a 7700 lb truck is impressive to say the least.

Yea i got em, 8 TR55 NGK’s

if it only does it when accelerating up a hill… from what ive learned via GM tech training (had to to be gm certified as asst service manager) its most likely fuel related… have them check fuel pump/fuel pump solenoid. if its had an aftermarket pump put in it could not be seated properly or the wiring could be loose and not getting enough voltage to send the proper amnt of fuel and cyl 5 might just be the “bitch” cylinder… just as a heads up brother…

how much/what do you want for them??

how do i check and see if my fuel pump is going bad?

7 is going to be the suspect preignition cylinder on LS1. The new gap spec as of GM required, due to bitching vette owners and poor idle condition on LS1s is .040 and not .060. I got NGK TR6 at .040 (thank you Cossey) and it made a nice difference. I ran NGK BR7s in my GTP at .040 with good results as well. You may want to check plug conections at the coil and injector as well as the wire harness itself. Make sure their is not intermitten short to ground or open circuit.

You can have em dude, just tryin to clean the garage out slowly lol.
