The rich don't pay their fair share in taxes!!

DISCLAIMER: I do not consider myself rich by any means.

That being said, I just found out what my taxes are on my new house.
$14,000. Yeah, that’s right $14,000.
The school tax alone is over $7,000 and I only have one child that will probably not even go to public school!!!
I know people that have 4 kids in the school system that don’t pay even close to half what I pay.

This has just made me stop and think how completely unfair and unjustified property taxes are.
In my old house I paid $2000.
What more am I receiving now that I am paying 7 times the amount of money?!?!?

There may be a “house for sale” thread soon.
New York is a joke.

and this surprises you why?

what township is your house in?

How many Sq ft?

how much land?

I’m betting that the assessment value of your old home was ridiculously lower… and You’re aware of how this works.

So, I’ll just write this off as “You needed to rant”

You know damn well that NYS is in it for the fun of it.

You had to know the taxes before you bought the house.

Owning a huge house in NY is a bad idea. Much better off moving to a state with way lower taxes. Sure, you pay more to get the same house in a lot of those states, but after taxes your monthly payment is close to the same and so much more of your monthly payment is going to equity instead of taxes.

Thank you.

I built it.

:word: I guess you beat JayS to it.

The taxes before I built it were aboot $700.

But based on sizes similar and the area you probably could’ve gotten an idea.

how many Sq ft?

does not apply when doing new construction… and you’re filing $xxx, xxx worth of permits.

Yeah, I guessed about $8,000-10,000.
Which is still outragous when compared to other states.

3,000 on 15 acres.

not really. The tax assessment on my house is ~$50k. The appraisal value is well over 2x that. Sadly… I’ve a feeling that’ll be updated soon, based on the permits filed last year.

However, he built new, so I’m sure his assessment is much more “accurate”.

this house does not have 15 acres and has 10k in taxes and it sucks compared to your house. so 14k isn’t too bad
