The Trump Presidency Discussion Thread (Non-Meme version)

I understand that’s not how it works. I also understand that by law, assault is assault. I’m just saying that ME PERSONALLY, I’m ok with a nazi getting his ass whooped for talking shit about jews. I don’t think that it would be good to have clashes like this occur often, or ever again for that matter. But I DO have a hard time getting mad about a racist asshole getting beat up.

Some people just need a good old-fashioned ass whooping.

Yeah that sounds great. But there are consequences and reactions that come from one Nazi getting his ass kicked. Violence pretty much always makes these things worse.
@Paulo what is your solution to this? How should have the anti-protestors acted or do you think they did exactly what they needed to do? You like to ask the hard questions to others and pick apart their arguments, but rarely do you propose a solution yourself.

Also this is interesting:

Actually it’s battery

haha good thing I’m not in charge eh?

I love going after the hard questions but people rarely want to ask them since they’re more concerned with getting their own opinion out. Unsolicited opinions fall on deaf ears so I choose to ask questions to get the discussion started and go from there. I’m usually met with sarcasm and assumptions (And I sometimes do it too) but I still try.

As for the protests, I think that JayS stated exactly what they should have done. A silent and powerful show of numbers SHOULD have been their response. The same way that people handle westboro baptist church protests.

However, the overall problem isn’t with this specific weekend. It is racism, bigotry, and hate having found a new voice and these groups are finding encouragement from Trump. That’s not to say he is trying to encourage them. I don’t think he is. But by sitting in a press conference and defending their actions by drawing a moral comparison with them and the counter-protesters it is validating their objective. He should be blasting those people with every second of screen time but instead he attacks ‘the left’, the media, and whatever else. He’s so fast to rip into any of his political opponents/allies but goes out of his way to make excuses for neo-nazis? What kind of message is that sending?

how bout dat

Much better.

Is that my hand? It looks like my hair has fallen to the bottom of my face since that picture was taken.

Full hipster liberal beard now? Lol jk

I always assumed your avatar is what you look like. Can’t tell if the pics above are the same person of avatar though

I do not agree that this is what is happening.

The people on the far right are expressing themselves and their values. Values that are too far right imho but they have the right to value whatever they want and express themselves.

The people on the far left are not expressing themselves, they are trying to force their values on everyone else and then systematically shaming everyone who doesnt agree. compelling municipalities to remove monuments of notable people in regional history when clearly many people would rather those monuments stay up is a perfect example of forcing leftist values.

The Neo-Nazi dudes are not telling me that i should be ashamed of myself for not sharing their values.

The left is worse because of this.

As much as it is terrible that people are getting hurt, this is an important fight. People on the far left and right are wrong. the truth is in the middle…

the monuments should stay, slavery was real, the civil war was real, don’t get rid of the relics.

I would also bet that if the far left wasnt so aggressive that the far right wouldnt be compelled to march as they have.

The anti-google marches this weekend are also important.

the fact that Jordan Peterson and others are being silenced or de-monetized by google is an attack on your 1st amendment rights and driven entirely by the left. It’s not being condemned as harshly as it should be, and because of that, i am perfectly fine with nazi marches. It is equally far to the right as taking mr. peterson’s platform away is too far to the left.

Speaking of slippery slope

“Pastor Wants Presidents’ Names Removed From Washington, Jackson Parks Over Ties To Slavery”

That’s actually @Zong lol. There’s another version with his head photoshopped onto my body. I always forget I have that avatar since I have them and signatures turned off.

What the fuck? You can condemn both, you know.

Trump condemned both and is being dragged through the mud

If antifa can throw dog shit at Gavin Mcinnes and get Ben Shapiro and Ann coulter’s talks at Berkley cancelled why can’t a bunch of dudes protest a Monument being taken down?

None of them are entirely right but I dont want to be doxxed so I ain’t going out there to protest shit. But I’m glad people are.

I will be following these #marchongoogle events this weekend closely.

CBC is reporting now that there are far-right marches being planned in Canada. This is a good thing. We’re way too far to the left right now. We need someone to bring balance to the force. The further right the people that hit the street are the further to the center we’ll be pulled.

Welp, Bing’s a nazi. #cnn

So much of this. The Nazi fucks will get what they deserve, no matter what. We shouldn’t support any groups who group themselves as white supremacists, but this a free country and that means they are allowed to THINK whatever they want. Sometimes what people think is extremely messed up, but these people are a tiny minority, we as a majority can show them another way. That ‘way’ is in the middle, and certainly not how the ‘alt left’ has acted in the past year or so.

@bing, IMO, the hate/bigotry/intolerance of the KKK/Nazi groups has nothing to do with political right or left. The fact that you are equating them, is troubling in its own right.

Apple’s Tim Cook wrote a letter to Apple employees and it containing the following bit:

We must not witness or permit such hate and bigotry in our country, and we must be unequivocal about it. This is not about the left or the right, conservative or liberal. It is about human decency and morality. I disagree with the president and others who believe that there is a moral equivalence between white supremacists and Nazis, and those who oppose them by standing up for human rights. Equating the two runs counter to our ideals as Americans.
Regardless of your political views, we must all stand together on this one point — that we are all equal.

The neo-nazi dudes would wipe you off the planet if they could.

Tim Cook is correct for the most part. The actions of both parties here are not equal, the white supremacists and Nazis are on another level than the people opposing them. The problem is the group opposing them has been violent and extreme to all who oppose them. The most recent event might have needed a different response, but the fact is these people are not helping anyone. Yes there have been peaceful protests, that is great and will go far to help make good changes, but the protests that get played on the big screen are the extreme ones, the violent ones, the ones where they prove to be intolerant to anyone who has a different belief than them. That mindset has to change is they want to really make change.

The same people in antfa and blm that you’re cheering for punching white supremacists were also punching anyone just trying to attend a Trump speech during the election. Sorry, those guys suck too. They don’t suddenly become ok just because they’re now punching nazis.

The truth is a lot of you are ok with it now because deep down you were ok with it then too.
