The World’s Gayest Head...

Reading Eric Hsu’s blog, I came across this. I have to admit, hes DEAD ON!

So I was checking out a 2007 Ford Mustang GT heads last week and I must say that they are the The World’s Lamest Heads; at least for a “performance” vehicle. I’m sure there are heads that are more lame, but the Mustang GT is supposed to be a muscle car. This is 2007 the last time I checked. Looking at these heads I thought I was in 1984.

First of all the heads use some of the world’s dirtiest aluminum in the casting. Fuck is it nasty. It’s so nasty that I thought they heads were cast iron at first glance. Second, the heads have only one cam each. You have to buy a Cobra if you want the twin cam heads. Third, they have CAST IRON VALVES. Hahah….fucking lame. Fourth, they have the world’s smallest exhaust ports (almost as gay as the BMW Mini, but I’ll get into that later). Fifth, the valves are purposely shrouded. It’s almost like Ford did not want the ports to flow at all. Sixth, they has stamped steel rockers. Lastly, the spark plug sits like 1″ inside the head like a rotary. Only it’s not a rotary.

I actually like the way the new, current body Mustang GT looks, but I lost all respect for the engine after I saw these piles of shit heads. I have no doubt that after some extensive work they can be made to flow pretty decent, but out of the box they are pretty fucking lame for a production head in the year 2007. Wait up for the Cosworth super double-whammy, stainless steel/inconel valve, CNC big port heads that will be coming soon!

YOU WONDER WHY FORD LOST $5.8 BILLION LAST YEAR. THAT COMES OUT TO LOOSING THE EQUIVALENT OF 1 MUSTANG EVERY 2 MINUTES. DO US A FAVOR FORD AND JUST STOP MAKING CARS!! GIVE IT UP!!! There hasn’t been a decent American Ford product in a long time except for 5.0’s, quad cam Cobras, GT500, and some of their trucks. You need big American trucks to tow your car to the track. Sure we owe Henry Ford the credit of creating the modern automobile and the origins of the assembly line, but everybody after him fucked everything else up. And you wonder why every other car company except for Ford, GM, and Chrysler are making money……

All that article says to me is there’s alot of things that could be relatively easy to improve upon.

so what whats the problem? its a MASS PRODUCTION VEHICLE. and would you want to buy a vehicle that has no room for improvement. are you an engineer, or metallurgist? if you arent, what grounds do you have to say they are junk, and the aluminum used sucks, whats wrong with a cast iron valve… tell me would you please. you and the article writer are dumb… it works, the cars perform well for what they are. your Audi isnt much better, trust me, ive worked on them. all cars have there +/-'s im sure the way ford engineered these are just fine for the capabilites of the car in stock form… most muscle car guys i know dont stick to stock heads or cam(s) for very long so its really a non issue, and old lady who buys a mustang GT doesnt care one bit, its a mass market and they cant make the car unreasonably priced, or have harsh valvetrain… if you want an agressive mustang buy a GT500.

Cast iron valves increases inertia over Al. Which makes it harder to open/close rapidly at the high RPMs meaning… valve float? or other shit.

Eric Hsu is without doubt one of the top 2 tuners in the United States. He was in charge of parts development at COSWORTH! Then chief engineer at Apexi. Now he runs XS engineering. If you haven’t heard about them then… I dunno, but it’s not good.


They’re responsible for creating this machine, the fastest American built time attack car.

True, this means there is a lot of room for improvement, but it also shows the lack of engineering ford puts into their vehicles. I’m willing to bet not just the engine head is sub-par.

*edit, it WAS the fastest time attack car, but I haven’t heard about it competing this year so it might be retired.

I will just stick with keeping my valves in the block. It flows like shit, but it’s cool as fuck!

Nice old flathead. I’ve got dozens of cores down at the shop waiting to be given life again. They do make one amazing v8 sound though :nod

most of the shit is there due to emmisions and trial and error is it the best no but it is a ford so relax but in all seriousness the 4.6 and 5.4 are lightyears away from what the pushrod 5.0 used to be as far as efficiancy goes most all motors come with stamped steel rockers its called mass production and cost means yes even your european shit does it to so :stfu and beat off to your precious audi that will milk ya dry when it gets in the higher miles as most euro,s do ;D

i understand as there is prolly a million people out there that thinks your audi is a shitty design “most mechanics” :lol so why is it a big deal if someone duffs on ford its not everyauto maker has a shitty part of there assembly prosess
