Theres a new name atop the big 3 manufacturers

Its almost too easy with this clown. :hs:

Clown am I? Seems your the one getting your panties all ruffled up from the little things i say(knowing they will piss some weak minded fool like yourself off)

Never did i say good drivers NEVER miss a gear…i was using the comparison of a ricer, to a “good driver”, remember good drivers don’t brag about it they just drive.
Missing a gear…means missing…not an accidental downshift… 1,2,3,2…thats accidental downshift, i’ve done it before, sucks, nothing broke though. 1,2,miss…womp womp womp…,3…thats a missed gear. And honestly i could care less what jdpower says…with things in life you have to realize its hit or miss…a person like myself…has no such luck with american cars or jap cars…brand new or old, babied or beat on…the same with Jeff(1st-try) from what he tells me we are neck and neck with horrible luck when it comes to cars…then you have that old hoot with the 5.slo with over 600,000 miles on it…it still gets down in the corners like a coyote(lol).

silly noobs need to learn to respect their elders.

“In the midsize sporty car segment, the Chevrolet SSR and Ford Mustang tie for the highest ranking in the J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS).”

Maybe no one else made a vehicle in that category!

Initial quality:
http://www.jdpower.com/autos/ratings/quality-ratings-by-brand

Dependability ratings:

“Please note that Power Circle Ratings may not include all information used to determine J.D. Power and Associates awards.”

Again, no one ever gives all the information. I say give me all the raw data and let me decide for myself instead of showing little circles.

Interesting. Only Lexus and Buick made all 5 circles the whole way across on dependability.

Buick being the only GM brand to make all 5 circles across is a bit confusing, since cadillac is the luxury GM brand.

Must be from all the old folks only driving their LaSabres to church and old country buffet on the weekends.

Yeah, I don’t think they’re winding them out to redline on a regular basis. Or the KDKA bumper stickers have magical engine healing powers.

so then why didnt u buy a prelude?

wow this thread sucks

Jeremy Clarkson put it best - America is a throwaway society. (in reference to automobiles) It makes sense that foreign cars last longer. Say what you want but my talon has 201k miles on it, dads camaro has 110k miles, we just replaced his entire rear inner fenders on both sides with new sheet metal and at 110k miles the engine is pretty low on compression from factory. Now before you bring dsm reliability up keep in mind I BOUGHT my car with 114k on it and the motor had 5psi less than factory compression, with 201k now there are only 2 spots of rust on the strut towers that are less than a quarter in size.

I know you’re gonna say “it’s an 89 yours is a 95” maybe, but I DRIVE mine in the winter, that thing has not seen salt since the year 1998.

because I wanted to be like all the other cool kids and rock an LS1

I hate to jump right into a fire, but this is messed up. I see a variety of cars in my shop every day. The most common problems: GM, and Ford, plain and simple. Can GM make a fuel pump that won’t fail before 100k. Can Ford make a transmission that won’t need a rebuild before 60k? I deal with this “buy American” notion everyday and it’s crap. Open the hood of your Chrysler. It WILL say Mitsubishi somewhere. If it doesn’t, it says BOSCH. Hmm Japan or Germany. NOT America. Why? Because the UAW is too greedy and screwed the American automaker. Thus it stunted the evolution of technolgy in America. I have owned 5 American 80’s cars and they all pale to my GERMAN 1986 Jetta with 215k on the clock and is STILL up and running with most of the ORIGINAL parts. My '87 Pontiac died at 154k, my '85 Ford rotted apart @ 143k, and my '88 Chevy had no power left at 152k. Though to be fair the '88 Chevy was totalled. I could rant about this forever, but the fact is that Germany and Japan build superior cars. Yes, they cost more to fix, but they aren’t going to need it as often. They do require some more maintainance in some cases, but with proper care will outlast their American counterparts. Why do you think Toyota can add Scion to it’s linup, but GM had to drop Oldsmobile and Chysler had to drop Plymouth. A shrinking American car market. My 1986 Jetta gets 36 mpg highway. A 2008 Cobalt gets 32 mpg highway. Twenty-two years later, we get 4 mpg less? What’s wrong with this picture?

that means nothing

all of the profit for the cars still goes back to japan

The profit goes to the shareholders. And who cares where the profit goes anyways? I’ll bet all of the Americans that have jobs working for a Japanese owned company really don’t give a fuck who signs their check.

Sounds a lot like any 5 year old Honda to me…LOL
Seriously, i do agree with a lot of what you said in your post. I know the longevity of A1 and A2 VW’s, i have owned a fair number of them myself, and still do. But looking at TODAYS cars, or even the last 10 years cars, the domestics have made HUGE strides in quality and durability. You mention Fords trannies, yet i had 2 Honda trannies that needed replaced before 50K. Not to mention chewing up front brake pads every 15K miles. Plus they seem to rust away faster than most any other car. The perfect machine has not been built yet, but i like the direction i see the automakers going, and i mean ALL of them. We are the winners, because we get cars that are faster, more economical AND more reliable.

all my GM’s are still going strong 25 years later… my dads Grand Merq still looks and rides brand new with 135K. its all relative. I totally disagree with them outlasting american cars. i’m not sayin the likewise, i’m saying its all relative on how the car was cared for from the start. low end cars are mostly bought by people who dont take care of their shit and it will fail.

Assuming ur theory of cost more to fix and breaks less often…wouldn’t that still leave you about even in the long run?

GM got a way from its bread and butter and made the market buy what it was selling. Had they stuck with what they did well and developed that we would have a have a nice RWD fuel injected V8 or v6 all through the 90’s. they totally abandoned their best product to try and compete in the same field. It cost them dearly. they also had no car to get traffic into the showroom… in the 80’s they had people come in to look at camaro z28 but couldnt afford it so they left with a caprice…in the 90’s and now there was nothing to draw people in… who was gonna go down to the dealer just to check out that lumina z34?

FYI- they stopped making the Camaro in 2002.

yes i know but even after a while a regular z28 wasn’t a traffic builder… Ford atleast had roush mustangs or saleens to get people to wanna take a peek… end up leaving the lot with a nice v6  plymouth prowler was exactly that… put this exotic lookin car in the showroom, get people in, sell them a neon. GM did a horrible job with promotions. unless you were into f-bodies… you wouldnt know about the anniversary TA or cars like that. They should have had that car on every commercial.

While hondamatic trannies aren’t exactly the cream of the crop in reliability i will admit, the fact remains.

YOU had two failed honda trannies.
EVERYONE that has an Explorer has had a failed tranny, often times numerous failures.

There are two types of Ford Explorer owners, ones who have had to buy/rebuild a tranny, and ones who will.

This thread is SUPER fucking retarded.
