I lived in Phoenix for a couple years and was forced to move back to Buffalo after 9/11 because the economy took a dump and i lost my job.
They always say hindsight is 20/20. if i didnt lose my job i’d probably still be living in AZ, making about the same money as i do here. i’d be living in an apartment, driving a beat up used car, and experiencing a meager lifestyle because of the higher cost of living. sinse i’ve moved back to Buffalo, i bought a new car and modded it out a bit, i bought a sweet house on a large lot and i still have enough cash left over to buy some toys here and there. plus the obvious reasons…friends, family, great food, great parties ect…
so yes i love it here…all you need is that elusive good paying job.
Born and raised here, graduated then moved to Detroit. Stayed there a year, hated the place, then found a new job back in Buffalo. Been back 2.5 years now and so glad I made the move.
There is no reason for me to leave Buffalo, at least currently. Also - if you have the right interests, Buffalo is an awesome place to live. Cost of living is so low here that the job market really is not that much of an issue. I mean seriously, you have the ability to do all of the following living in one place.
Boating, Fishing, Hiking, Ski/Snowboard, Casinos, Night Clubs (knock it if you want, its plenty busy enough for me downtown, and you don’t have to pay $15/drink), NFL, NHL, MLB (hour and a half drive) etc. etc.
Buffalo is not a bad place to live, only real issue is a lack of a huge professional job market, I guess, all though I’ve never had any issue with finding work. Even if you do have a hard time finding work to make madddddidid $$$, it’s still cheap as hell to live here.
Steve… you know me, and you know i moved to Tampa and came back. I don’t regret the decision at all. I eventually found a great job, and i am much happier here.

But i agree with what xander said.

Tampa is a really bad comparison though, that place was hell and I hated it more than NYS
Honestly, the money is not there for me to ever move back, the job market isn’t really there for me unless you start getting out into the middle of no where for some of the equipment design jobs, and then you either have to live in the middle of no where or commute to the middle of no where.
Its nice not having a huge amount of snow, but still have an obvious change of seasons. Most places can offer this, not any where along the snow belt though.
I probably pay to same to live in a larger city as I would to live in buffalo/rochester/syracuse.
Other aspects are so much cheaper depending on where you go, no state taxes is a sweet thing
Now Buffalo is nice to visit but I was ready to come back home after Thanksgiving. I am jealous that the houses are dirt cheap to buy though What I would give to buy a house in b-lo…
yea i moved away from buffalo to NYC and i only lived there for 14 months then i moved back to buffalo, kinda missed the mighty, jims steakout, chip, and watching all the sabres games and bills games…but hey i work for the government so i can work anywhere in the us lol
