So today i did something smart, I actually went and put my hands on the three cameras I was looking at. I based my opinion of actually handling the cameras, going through ALL the menus and features and actually taking pics and zooming, the whole nine.
I like the Nikon Coolpix S630 the best, by A LOT.
The cannon I’m sure is just as good as the Nikon in photo quality, but the menus on the Nikon are a bit better. The Cannon is 50 bucks more and to be honest FEELS like a piece of crap. the case has a bad shape to it and the buttons suck, and the rotary knob is actually quite sharp and irritating to use.
Now i have decided to go with the Nikon S630, but when I read online reviews on it, they are not exactly glowing? Some of them are actually quite harshly worded. WTF? How can Nikon’s top of the line point and shoot camera not be spectacular? What would be better god’s own retina?
Does anyone here have an opinion on the Nikon S630?
If i was interested in a full body digital SLR I would no doubt pick that up in a second. However what I am looking for is a small portable camera that i can use for everyday shooting.
I have spent many hours reading reviews, and I have found this website to provide extremely detailed and scientific reviews of all cameras, both point and shooters, and ultra expensive full body digital SLR’s.
Tons of info here. most reviews 16 pages or so. (click the headings in the overview for more about each topic.
the D40 isnt a full body, its a crop body. but it is a DSLR, 6.1mp, and it shoots in Auto as well.
all it has is a cracked(plastic locks on the lens body) 18-55 kit lens and a 55-200 5.6 lens. nothing special, maybe 150 actuations on it.
has the nikon bag, lens hood, circular polarizer and a uv filter, battery and charger. i bought it and never really used it.
the 18-55 cracked when i was uploading pictures, i had the camera on my desk, plugged in to the usb drive, and i went to walk away and my foot caught the cable, pulled camera with it, hit the carpet, lens popped off the hard way
I would go with your own opinion. You did the right thing, go into the store and actually use and try out different cameras before making a decision.
From the pictures I have seen taken with the S630 it doesnt look like the camera does that bad of a job; here is a search on Flickr of all photos taken with that camera: Search: Nikon S630 | Flickr
If thats the one you like, then you’ve made your decision.
I was all jazzed up about the S630 until i read that in actual testing the Canon had more than 18% better resolution. Since in my opinion resolution is the most important aspect of a photograph, i once again started looking at the canons.
I actually went back to best buy a second time to play with the canons again with that in mind. They are extremely small, which is actually quite annoying because it makes them hard to hold. However for a supreme quality photograph, I can get over it. Hopefully I will get comfortable holding and shooting with the Canon’s.
Now my only question I’m struggling with is which cannon to choose?
