Your thoughts?
What sort of welding is involved?

Won’t crack/burst welds like stainless steel.

Looks good to me.

is that yours?!

hahaha you dind’t go to band!

thoughts on what?
sort of welding is involved to create what?

:expressionless: double-u tee eff

is that an oem sr manifold? will be hard to weld to casting

Involved in what dude?

You gotta make your posts more involved…

putting 38mm wastegate flange on stock cast mani?

I think you would need to TIG and bake?

Thanks jjm.

Lol the only one who understands me.

Yes, what sort of welding is it that would allow you to weld a flange on a cast manifold.

TIG and bake?

yup.

Pretty much any welding shop worth its salt can do it for you.

They’ll have the right equip and ovens.

your better off upgrading your manifold while your at it and upgrading to one that is externaly gated.

You will need to modify your downpipe too unless you want to get pulled over for being louder then a transport

Andrew.

You sure?

I looked into this a bit earlier. The flapper on my t28 is a bit silly so I wanted to do this. I asked Steve Leitner (Concepts on Wheels / Leitner Performance) and they didn’t want to go anywhere near welding on a cast piece.

Obviously it can be done, but I’m not sure any old shop will tackle it.

i know a local guy in brampton that can bake it and TIG it

it can be done…i had my turbo welded to my manifold

the cost of getting the job done would be not much less then getting a stone mountian/ebay stinless header. the gains for the extra money would be improved flow rates, lighter header, better cooling around the header. not a real hard decision. Besides welding a cast seam or crack is one thing… but welding a flange to it is going to last for a short period of time, thermal expansion rates of most metals strong enough to hold the wastegate won’t expand enough to last long attached to the cast header…

larry taler & son in brampton can do it… Ya thats not a cheap job.

that torbo is too small

i would use something along the lines of…

or

http://www.manturbo.com/img/gear_b.jpg

That first pic isn’t a turbo at all. It’s a blower from a carwash

mine has lasted…we used almost a pure nickel rod and thermal cycled it

i wouldn’t let those idiots touch my lawn mower…they built my first engine and it was a 100% total fubar…totally shit job…

i would stay away from them 100%…100%

how much did it cost you & by ‘rod’ are you referring to 'stick welding rod or TIG rod if it’s TIG then that’s a lucky find or you went to a big shop, nickle rod is hard to find ( read: months of wating ) in Canada and what did you use for a flange?
