Anyone have any knowledge with tilt trim motors on boats, outboard to be specific. Having an issue with mine. Won’t go up or down. Replaced both relays with new ones. If I touch the wire to a 12v the motor works both up and down but when they are hooked up they won’t. I’m stumped.
is the thumb switch thats on the throttle bad?
Sounds like a switch or wiring to me…
Im a novice when it comes to electrical but I think I’ve narrowed it down to wiring or switch like you guys said. Just having a hard time tracking the issue down
Run a toggle for a test
Switch is grounding out.
When you say grounded out, what are you referring to?
Well its possible for the power wire going to the switch to be grounding on metal somewhere.
Basically you will have to take apart the switch and trace wires, that is where you are going to want to start looking for a problem, it could be something as simple as a loose wire. Most of those switches are 3 wires (ground, 12v constant and 12v when the switch is used) But its also possible if the boat is old that the wires could be corroded and possibly broke, or the ground wire isn’t grounded. There are a lot of scenarios with the wiring alone that could prevent the tilt/trim to not work. Going to have to start with testing each wire for power or to see if the ground is actually grounded.
