time for a new car... help! s4 or GTO?

Newer GTO seems more up your alley.

High mileage S4 isn’t something you really want to start sinking money into is it?

what about a b6 s4 ?

the b5’s rock with a set of K04s on them… but itll cost u and arm and a leg to keep it tickin

i hear gto’s are built kinda cheapy but idk and im not much of an american car guy.

Trevor has a good point but the 4.2L S4’s clock in at about $20k or more.

I like the audi but what is the comparison for cost of ownership

How about a CTS V that is a few years old? Pretty nice compromise between the 2 cars you have your eyes on.

What? Please point me in the direction of that car. I have been looking at GTO’s for a few weeks and have yet to find anything that cheap.

sorry i totally test drove one with minglor who was pretty much dead set on it before he bought the a4. it rode like complete fucking garbage. maybe you are just easy to please or you havent been in an audi.

out of the 3 cars…

the gto is going to be the cheapest to buy plus cheapest to make quick

the b5 s4 is going to be pricey to maintain, mod and buy but damn they are awesome. high milage is scary with the 2.7t but just like with any car if the maint. was done then you should be fine.

the b6 s4…i love mine… but dont expect to make it quick unless you have a buttload of cash to drop on a supercharger. (9.5k for a bump to 500hp)

I’ve been in an audi. Unfortunately not that much, because the relative who owned it dumped it after a year after he ran into electrical gremlins and found out the ridiculous amount of labor to do even the simplest maintenance on them. Everything that should be a 2 step process requires an ass-backwards 10 step one.

Go drive both and see which YOU like.

Then consider the points in here. A high mileage audi turbo sports sedan has a much higher chance of becoming a money pit than a low mileage GTO with an LS1/LS2 and the sturdy Tremec. You can make some pretty decent power for not a lot of money on a GTO but the IRS is going to be a problem for making a real 1/4 terror because of wheel hop and limited room inside the fenders. Bottom line though, you’ll likely buy the one you like more regardless.

I’m not going to try talking you into either one. This is a lot like the R32 thread because no one can you what vehicle is right for you. I will say that I’ve had my 05 GTO over 2 years now and if it was wrecked tomorrow I’d take the insurance check and start looking for another 05 or 06 GTO. There hasn’t been another car I’ve owned that after 2 years I would say that.

2005 6 speed LS2
20K miles
Black with Red interior

$16K and change in May. Sitting in my garage if you want to see it. (2 payments left until I turn it in)

Payoff is $17,093.79 If you want it today…

OT, butch, this was a 4 year lease?? you have had this thing forever. I remember talking to you about it when we all helped moved lucas.

seeing GTOs so cheap makes me want one, but for a little more I can buy a cobra. Will you be able to deal with the rear wheel drive GTO in the snow. I know alot of ppl do, but I can not stand not having AWD in the winter in buffalo.

Yep 4 yrs at 569.00 a month. Do the math. fuck me…

Holy shit, you could have OWNED my 05 with 1850 miles on the odo for less than that.

I could have done a lot with that money but shit happens…

Damn!

regardless the OT is talking about a DD… I would say neither of these are great dd, however in WNY quattro > RWD v8 in the snow that we have for 4-5 months of the year…

ive been driving my mustang, the rwd doesnt bother me. if you dont drive like a retard its fine.

By asking this on NYspeed you are going to get many many biased responses based on little more then a useless automotive opinion.

The only thing you can do is drive both and check up on the general cost of maintenance/known issues. Going to model specific/brand specific forums will help but you still have to wade through a ton of crap to get any decent opinions.

it is basically going to come down to your own opinion, so just try to do as much research yourself.

:eekdance:

 4 or 5 months. Maybe if you drive around in your yard but I can count on my fingers the number of times the city/northern suburbs have seen snow build up on the roads. On one hand the number of times it was significant.

If you live or drive in the southtowns that’s another story.
