Timing belt broke

They’re actually very good/nice cars. Aside from oil changes, tires, brakes, the only work work I had done was to fix a bad vanity light diode that drained the battery, set the alarm off, cost me $600+ to fix at the stealership…and then this timing belt incident. (mostly my fault for not changing it sooner) Had the t/b kit in the trunk.

Oh yea, the $1000 throttle body thing in the -10* winter. That SUCKED!!!

Depending on the damage done to the tops of the piston (which doesn’t look too bad), you can get away with throwing on a new (or good used) head. A nice advantage to having the 5 valve head is that the valve necks are very thin, and they bend easy. This keeps the damage down that is done to the piston tops. While you have everything apart, may be a good idea to change out the cam adjuster seal, they leak like a submarine with a screen door.

Wish I still had my AEB for ya be-rad…I sent sonny some links to heads on ebay for cheap…GL

brad what year is yours???

jeff is have one hell of a time trying to find the correct front struts for my wifes her’s is titled as an 01

but on the door he says its 2000

Mines a '99. same thing…Title sounds shady.
-Brad

what month in 2000 was it built? that will tell what year model it is. 98-01 is one body style, considered passat old. 01-up is new style. frame rails are the same, upper apron along the rails where the fenders bolt up are different. it should have a vin break-- like through VIN 049999 and from VIN 050000. other than that, then you have w/ or w/o sport option–which is spring rate difference, and then you have sedan or wagon…

seein you have a build date in 00, but titled as an 01, should be an early 01 or through vin 049999

I didn’t think there was a difference between B5-B5.5 besides motor size/type and springs depending on that, forgot about sport suspension. Then B6 '04+ is different for sure.

so does it run?

nahh i think its just an early build date and they way they number things

ill post the vin so we can get the correct part

i wish it was a shady title id march the bitch right back to VW and say keep ill take my money back

Good deal. Some people can disect the vin of top of their heads. amazing.

I was confused at first between 99-99.5, 01-01.5 Damn vag’s lol

Does GM/Ford do anyhting like that? mid year changes or whatever…

it is back

congrats that was a big job to tackle and you did it yourself :bigthumb:

congrats

x2 very impressed.
…unlike some other people who just take their car to jeff’s so they can watch him work while they eat pizza and drink beer. :finger:

i worked on the turbo kit too :asshole:

plus, when i brought pizza and beer nobody worked on anything. so that statement is far from being valid

there is alot of little shit different. most instances it will be same part number but different letter at eth end. then they fucked around w/ wheel bearing sizes–which fucks around w/ axle interchange. sheetmetal is different too. 03 doors are different than a 99.

i can go on about differences

very impressed.
