tire talk

bridge stone gforce’s have been my favorite tire thus far.

I wanted the gforce’s as that’s what I have now, but they didn’t have them in the size that I need. So I went with my second choice, the UHPs.

Soo far ive had, wanli’s, kumho estca’s, yokohama prada spec 2’s (my current tires), and G forces. G forces had the best ride quality and stability imo.Prada spec 2’s arent bad but there noisey as hell.

the RS2 > gforce. the gforce is ok, but the limits are very low as they are quick to overheat.

RS2 with it’s 200 treadwear doesn’t belong anywhere in this thread since he said he’s looking for something that will last a while. Yes, we get it, it grips better than the 300+ treadwear tires we’re discussing. It also wears much faster. I loved the RS2’s for their grip. The only tire I’ve had on the GTO so far that I could switch the TC off and go full throttle in first without wheelspin. But they wore out fast.

both are cheap Z rated tires so i consider them to be in the same class. treadware ratings are like peak wattage on subwoofers and don’t really mean anything since they are not standardized.

but I do agree that you’ll probably get better life from the Gforce sports… I’ve owned just about every tire at this point… the gforce sport one of my mistakes.

I’m currently running the gforce KDW 1s on my summer rims that I picked up slightly used… I like the grip, but the noise is killing me - I swear they’re louder than my race tires.

I have Kumo Ecsta AST’s on my Grand National, don’t have a ton of miles on them but so far wear seems good, traction is also good. I Don’t drive it in rain, so I can’t comment on that. They are directional so you can only rotate front to back.
Noise is on par with the Yokohama’s I had before these. Not bad at all. The treadwear is 400, Traction and temp are both “A”.

My son just bought General Altimax HP’s as his summer tires. These have been really good in wet & dry. They look cool, and are also directional.
The treadwear is rated at 440, traction A & treadwear also A.

My wife has a Mazda 6 sport. She has had Fuzion VRI’s for 4 years now as her summer only tires. She has over 28,000 miles on them so far. They are a little noisy but have been wearing like steel! Handling is very good in both wet & dry conditions. These look somewhat directional but are not, which I like because I can rotate them Left to right. I think the wear rating is 460? Traction & temp both A.

I wanted some help deciding on a summer tire and wanted a real review(not the fluff from tire rack). Looking for 225/50/16 or a 245/45/16(which seem to be less of a variety). I am stuck between these 3 for my rears on the S2000. My front Potenza RE050As still have good tread on them. I don’t track my car and want something that will last 20kish under normal conditions but still offer a bit of grip.

the general tires are what a lot of people use for drift, because they either slide easy? or last a long time lol

I romp on my General UHP’s all day and they just keep taking it and they are wearing very slowly. Decent grip in rain and shine, too. doesn’t slide unless I push it. Very good tire.

:word:

they wear overly quick for the shitty traction they provide

their HTR+ all seasons would be a better choice… at least they will last longer.

I actually am really liking my stock sti tires (dunlop sp sport 600’s) for daily driving… for racing they are shit because they have a super weak sidewall, but daily driven they provide really nice grip in wet/dry. downside they are kind of noisy.

Falken 512’s seem to be really popular right now for the mk4/5 kids. They are a good price, D. Hagen just picked up a set.

General UHP’s are super cheap and not real loud.

I have dunlop potenza’s, they’re great but were just a touch more expensive than those tires ^

My next set will be Falken 512’s though! Good luck on your search trevor!

Falken 512’s suck at life. That is all.

anyone have any experience with the g-Force Sports or reason to purchase them over the General UHPs?

yeah, the falken 512 sucks…

I have the kumho ASTs on my E36 and I really like them so far. the price from discount was really good also.

I have these tires… and they just suck in the rain… but they aren’t “bad” winter tires  … ok they are terrible winter tires too… but they seem to last a pretty good time…

I honestly don’t like how the tread extends so far onto the side wall… it gives that 4X4 look to them IMO.

but for the price you really can’t beat them

I keep trying to kill my Fusion ZRi s with a number of track days and other “spirited” driving - unsuccessful so far… I think DMoffitt, MPD, and Silver drove my car on them - low limits, but predictable, not very “talkative” though.

Had them on the 540, decent in the rain and dry, quiet, quickly overheated and disintegrated at the track, but the bimmer was very heavy.
