Tires for my E46 M3

My car is running the OEM Pilot Sports in the standard oem sizing (255 in back)

I am thinking about switching to the Kumho XS tires, but I am wondering how they compare. I drive the car spiritedly, and have a set of winter tires of course. I am also thinking of running 275s in the rear, and 245s in the front, any downside to that besides price? (oem 18" wheels). I searched around and I couldn’t find much downside to running larger tires other then an decrease in “poor” weather traction. Is grip significantly better between 255s and 275s? They do fit according to some searching online.

So I guess I’m looking for some opinions. My rears aren’t looking so hot, so it’s time to do something about it. Let me know, appreciated!

I LOVE my nitto invo/general exclaim combo

245/275

I went with generals in the rear cuz with the sc i am burning through them pretty quick… but when they are gone im going invo’s at all 4 corners

General Exclaims are cool but don’t compare to the Pilot Sports or the XSs in my research, in terms of dry grip…

people are 50/50 on them

i have used both ends of the tire spectrum on my car… have no complaints with my generals… and the price is right

I understand. I don’t think I’m going to get them though. I’m between the XSs, getting two rear Pilot Sports again, or maybe even the dunlop star specs.

general’s fucking suck… but they are cheap…

If it’s street driving, and you’re planning on beating on them anyways, why not just go the cheap route?

if you’re not getting married and just want to dump the occassional batch, why not pound a series of ugly chicks?

touche

still though, there can definitely be a good middle ground between super expensive tires, and shitty Generals.

I just picked up General UHPs…and love them to death so far.

They were cheap, hold me tight on the street both dry and wet and have held up to my love of cornering quite well so far.

rt615

I was just about to say 615s

18’s or 19’s?

Seriously for street driving just go the cheap route, going from PS2’s to Ecsta SPTs I lost 9 mph on a merge… they are fine and when you burn through them in under 10k miles you really don’t care vs spending $800 every few months on rears

DING…

I eat through rears every 7-10k now

seriously, I can buy a full set and install for what I was spending on just rears…

And usually its 2+ sets of rears for every set of fronts

I love my Goodyear Eagle F1 gs-d3’s.

I have a set of start specs 275/35/18s with ~4-5/32s on them I might let go for a good price if you are interested. I think you’d like them A LOT.

i don’t know, it seems like the XS are a pretty serious tire for the price, considering they turned the best test times in reviews lately

im more worried theyll be loud…

christ… I’m on 15K for the sumitomo shit tires I have … and im probably about 3/16th from the wear bars…

unless you guys are doing burns outs or drifting ever turn…

Really? 90% of the tires for this car are extremely loud/noisy… :banghead:
