Sherry Sutton Wants Change

Did you know that, most likely, the candidate who wins Tuesday’s Primary will be our next Mayor?

If you care about our City, you must vote Tuesday!!

Do not stand by one more time and let our City continue be destroyed. Our political conditions are in dire need of repair and we are at a point of not return. On Tuesday, Primary Day, all registered, eligible City residents must vote. This is the Democratic primary, but Conservatives and Independents can do a write in vote!

There are only two choices - a vote for business as usual - or a vote for desperately needed change. If you’ve been unhappy with our city government, do not sit back and think there will be change if you don’t do anything about it.

I have personally walked my local City streets, spoken to people at Spot Coffee and with friends and those who own businesses. I was astounded to hear that people didn’t know who to vote for, don’t know if they were registered to vote, or aren’t aware or concerned about what’s going on politically!

I have been a City resident all my whole life, owned a business in the City for over 26 years and have watched us make mistake after mistake for decades. You must vote. Take this seriously. We can make a difference ? your vote does count!

Cast your vote for a visionary, change agent on Tuesday. Talk about this to your friends. Even if they are Republicans, they can talk to people who can vote! Don’t make any assumptions.

You must take action! Don’t let the political machine in Buffalo continue. We can’t afford it. Taxes will go up again, children will continue to leave and retirees and business owners (who can sell out) will leave.

Stop the madness and join us!

A group of concerned citizens and myself will hold a rally on Monday at 5:30, Elmwood and Bidwell. Come and show your support for reform, show that you know how dire this current state of affairs is and show that you want to affect change.

Please don’t let this happen to our City. We need your help. Be silent no more!

Sincerely,

Sherry Sutton - resident, voter and small business owner

I agree with everything this woman says… Unfortunately I think Brown will be elected, which is the worst thing possible for this city.

He is just another lifelong politician with tons of favors to pay back, and more interest in his own political ties and career than anything else.

I have a lot of views that are mostly on the left, but this is one democrat that will continue to drive buffalo into the ground.

Just what do you think those checks are for?

http://homepage.mac.com/figmo/brownpaidfor.jpg

Do you really think these checks were written because Byron has promised “an open and competitive development process” or because he’s the only candidate “talking about involving every sector of the community to solve problems”?

The checks are for the same thing a vote for Byron is for: more of the same old thing. But don’t take my word for it. All that follows is from today’s News, the same paper that just last week endorsed him.

  • The News analysis shows 69 percent of his money comes from about 175 donors who gave $1,000 or more. The largest among them are no strangers to City Hall and include the fire and police unions, developers Rocco Termini and Samuel Savarino, and Hormoz Mansouri, who has ingratiated himself to many local politicians through frequent and generous contributions.

  • The list of Brown’s largest donors - 21 who gave between $5,000 to $12,900 - is dominated by city unions, developers and lawyers who do business with the city and big-time politicians from around the state.

  • Unions make up four of his nine largest donors and include Brown’s most generous contributor, Buffalo firefighters and their state affiliate, which gave a combined $16,900.

  • The five major unions representing city workers have contributed $42,255, including donations from affiliated groups at the regional and state levels.

Firefighters head the list, giving a combined $16,900 through the city union and a state affiliate.

AFSCME locals representing 2,000 city, Board of Education and Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority employees rank third among overall contributors with $12,485.

The Police Benevolent Association and its political action committees rank ninth with $8,175.

Private-sector unions contributed another $35,000, most notably $8,500 from Service Employees International Union Local 1199, the powerful union of public health workers headed by Dennis Rivera. The union’s headquarters served as the site of one of Brown’s major fund-raisers in New York City.

  • Many who have contributed do business with the city, in particular developers, contractors and lawyers. Developers head the list.

Savarino and his company donated $10,500. Rocco Termini and several of his companies, which have been awarded a number of city contracts in recent years, gave $9,000. Norstar Development, which has redeveloped several public housing properties in the city, donated $6,225 through its national and New York State corporations.

Other developers who have contributed include First Amherst Development Group and Benjamin N. Obletz, who is involved in the company ($3,050); related Uniland Corp. companies ($2,000); Benderson Development and Delta Sonic Car Wash ($1,250); Louis P. Ciminelli ($1,000); and Dennis Penman ($500).

Brown said these businesses are contributing, in part, because he has promised “an open and competitive development process.” But many of the large contributors are developers selected by City Hall in recent years to do projects, which has promoted allegations of favoritism.

  • The contributor list also includes numerous members of Goin’ South, a political club headed by Ray McGurn, an administrator under Griffin who now serves as inspections and permits chief for Mayor Anthony Masiello.

so how do you know sherry sutton? or should i say how much is she paying you to do this?

As posted on top, this is reposted from another source, i posted it to generate some discussion.

My comments are in red.

Are you for Byron Brown? What was the purpose of your post?

unfortunatly even a good mayor isnt gunna change buffalo’s woes. the city’s problems stem from alot higher up. go vote at your county and expecially your state elections. the real crooks are in albany.

Yes, NYS is a big problem, but you have a horrible outlook. The more corrupt career politians we can keep out whether it is at the local, city, or state levels, the better it will get around here. There are MANY things that can be changed locally that will make a huge impact on our local economy and lives.

Byron is just going to continue burying this city instead of trying to fix the problems, he is another giambra, mark my words. He has a shitload of favors to fill, and a huge personal agenda. His personal political career and helping out all the entities that got him where he is > The city of Buffalo.

Too bad I cant vote for the buffalo mayor, blame that on my insurance rates, or if you asked xander im too cheap to pay buffalo insurance

I saw byron brown last week… if first impressions mean anything then he is an absolute idiot…

I saw byron brown last week. If first impressions mean anything then he is a real idiot…

What does she claim will help Buffalo?(other than “change”)

i think you misunderstood what i was saying. im not implying changing things at the city level wont make some progress for buffalo. what i am saying th0 is that any drastic change, which buffalo needs alot of, needs approval from either the county or the state. example: no plea zones…the city common council wants em. it could help curtail crime in buisness districts located in rough neighborhoods. but the county’s district attorney is saying it wouldnt be fair for the gang members, drug dealers, and thugs not be treated on a case by case basis. and therefore what is good for buffalo is being shot down once again. its the poverty and crime thats killing the city. after my house was broken into and robbed in one of the better parts of buffalo, i got the fuck out. and i think this is the main reason for so many other taxpayers leaving the city. so i hope this is a priority on someones list.

What is a no plea zone?
Does that mean you cannot plea down to a lesser crime in designated areas?

it does not matter… sad

yes. and im not saying it will be completely effective, but atleast it will get these thugs off the street for a while. the current system obviously isnt working. shit i got a buddy who only got a slap on the wrist after his 3rd DWI conviction. he should be in prison, but instead the judge let him go so he can work on his 4th i guess. :gotme:

I dont think I posted this just to get a reaction about her comments, but more or less just to spark discussion on the mayoral election in general.

My opinion is “Anyone, just please ANYONE other than Byron.”

A message from Steve Calvaneso

			September 12th, 2005 A gracious gentleman:

I would like express a very humble and sincere “thank you” to everyone who supported me in the campaign and consequently my decision to step down. It was an extremely difficult decision, I made it with Buffalo’s best interest at heart. I could not be the catalyst in Byron’s “free pass” to the Mayor’s office. I believe a 50/25/25 vote would have given him the margin of victory to propel him in November. I was not willing to participate in that. This election was never about me, the sole purpose was to help lead Buffalo to a brighter future. I am hopeful in some small way I have helped or will help facilitate that. Wishing everyone all the best and lots of love.

I sincerely hope that Calvaneso stays active politically. His voice is one that Buffalonians need to hear.
