Top Gear: Car + Lightning

What happens when your car gets hit by lightning.
Well, if it is a vw it just gives you a pleasant error message

My guess the dashlights had nothing to with the lightning, its a factory option

ahahaha fuck that is AWESOME!!
not only did he zap that car once scared the guy and did it 3 more time  but wow! thats alot of voltage to get hit with that many times in a row and no damage or anything.

good thing he had the windows up

to bad a lighting bolt is like 400 million volts not a weak 800,000.

Not quite… 10-120 MV by most estimates.

and 800KV is damn hard to generate especially with the correct Amperage to simulate lighting strikes…

I’ve seen it melt glass with no problems and cause incorrectly made composite aircraft fuselages literally EXPLODE.

The Voltage is only what makes it arc, it’s the amperage that’s insane being upwards of 100kA…

Why is it that Hamster always gets stuck doing these type of tests?

true. The duration is rather short but it is quite a thermal shock, arcs are extremely hot

amperage kills.

I’d like to see what it did to the top of the car…

Oh dont worry… real lightening has plenty of that

Yah I was looking at that skinny wire holding the washer…it could carry many amps threw it

Because hamsters are animals that experiments are performed on? :poke:
