Top Gear USA coming to The History Channel

Well its obv. the scripting, I think it was a stupid challenge with the Helicopter vs. a Viper… and they stopped in the middle of the bridge because they didn’t know where to go??? lol, either way I enjoyed watching the viper get beat to shit. The end of the show got better.

Ya, I want my 30 mins back. I couldnt even get through the whole show. How fn awful.

Dan

Tanner is the only one that knows about cars, I mean honestly an actor and comedian that you want to punch in his face when he talks and a nascar commentator? Get the fuck out of here.

Tanner is a good driver, but usually just takes any chance he can to just drift. His knowledge of the cars themselves also seems too listed. I’ll watch it for the cars… the hosts just aren’t right.

It was better than I could do it, sure it needs some work, but at the end of the day I will keep watching it. It’s pretty easy to criticize it when the show it’s being compared to is one of the biggest and most successful car shows ever.

If you compare the new Top Gear USA to the other british car show “Fifth Gear”, The US version of Top gear already looks a lot more promising.

X…

Agreed.
It was better than fifth gear.
Better than BBC top gear. No, I doubt that will happen but it was above par for the shit auto shows we have state side.
Yeah, it needs work but I wil keep watching.

They have a tried and true formula to work off. All they need is some decent hosts/commentating and it can be good. It wasn’t that terrible for a first effort.

The hosts need to get to know each other and need to get comfortable, it will take time, but I think we should allow them to get used to it, its too soon to really judge IMO…

I was thinking about it, and the car review part is lacking, but that’s probably because they are just starting. The UK version has been reviewing cars for a while now, and they have all driven a ton of cars to compare each new car to.

You know what, I just watched Top Gear on Demand, the 458 italia episode and Jeremy clarkson acted kinda retarded testing it out.

The one part that I found rather “amateur” was when he was testing one of the lambos and he said something along the lines of “I can’t find a single thing wrong with it”. There’s ALWAYS something that could be better, and in the UK version they are always sure to make that abundantly clear.

:word:

That’s why Leno didn’t want to do the show. He felt that in America you wouldn’t be able to criticize the car without loosing commercial sponsorship.

So we’ll see if they just hump everything they drive or if they actually rip cars apart like Clarkson.

“It looks like a dog taking a poo.”

If I had a lambo I wouldn’t complain…

^If you had driven every lambo, ferarri, bmw, etc…would you complain when you got in and realized that you just spent “20K pounds more than last years model” for nothing more than a stainless steel shift knob?

That’s where BBC Top Gear rocks, they are equal-opportunity haters and lovers, the american version is going to be one huge advertisement.

It was ok, but hard to watch because it seemed like it was very forced. It looks like they were told to study Top Gear BBC and attempt to copy the comment style. They seem to all be reading off of cards, it seems 100% scripted. They need to be allowed to think for themselves for this to work right. It will be a long time before the chemistry is there, so I will not comment on that yet. I will keep watching to see how it builds.

They usually review new models or different models, like say a regular Murcielago and then a year or two later a Lp640, and then the LP-670-4SV… Not exactly the same car, more power, little differences here and there. Not like they take the same car thats a year newer and expected it to be a completely new vehicle. I wouldn’t be surprised if all three of those lamborghini’s didn’t have radio’s. Its not like they were out to find which is the best Daily driveable Lamborghini. I think the show needs work, but the statement, “I can’t find anything else wrong with the Lamborghini” isn’t really a big deal to me.

EDIT: I guess what I am saying is The Top Gear on BBC is too picky, and they complain about every little thing. When they review cars they usually get it right but sometimes they match up cars stupidly. I watched a few of the top gears on Time Warner On Demand, and the only thing interesting was when they reviewed the cars, and beat on the cars, some of their challenges are boring… like the one that they took a british sports car from their generation and traveled the the factorys, that was boring to me. Just saying…

I think you’re broken. Stick to motorweek

lol well everyone has opinions, i guess if I was on topgear BBC then it would be ok

They need a mouthy guy who doesn’t give a rats ass about what “his bosses”'think to be a host, kinda like our own JoesType-S.

I just watched it on streetfire as it wasnt on the history channel in canada. heres the link

It was ok, the camera work was good, driving was good. but like many have said it just seems like everything is forced. Theyre probably just trying to get the right hosts for the job, if i remember correctly, Top gear has swapped 2 of the 3 hosts (clarkson always been there). Its just all about finding the right people. After saying that i hope the douche who drove the yellow lambo and did the interview with buzz lightyear gets sacked.
