sooooooooo funny
no no no…thats the other thread. this one is about pjb’s bike
cant we all just be friends?
That older red jag, Singh’s brother IRC? I did the hood, both bumpers and a grill shell for $600
Yes, that hood sucked and I will admit it wasnt my best work.
- Hood was green to start, and needed body work on the leading edge.
- Bumper front and rear needed body work.
- He didnt want to blend panels, just shoot the hood and bumpers
- fenders were faded, so the chance of matching vs a newly sprayed hood are slim to none.
- I shot it twice becasue the first time I wasnt happy with the color, I assumed the cost on the first one for more paint and my time to try to get better results.
- I got a run in the clear on the drivers side leading edge where the curve of the headlight line is that I buffed out the best I could, without risking burning through and having to reclear the entire hood.
- had some orange peel on one edge, again buffed as much as I could without risking burning through.
- offered to re-buff the hood on the spot and walk that fine line of burnthrough on the spot. He declined, I then offered bring it back when the paint has cured more, so I can cut/buff it again with less risk, he declined.
- I painted the underside for him
- bumpers came out just fine, no issues with them.
- also painted a grille shell that was in rough shape to start, and IRC there were broken tabs when I got it or something that Singh said he would take care of on the reinstall.
Lastly, I only charged him $600 for the entire job, and I took $100 IRC off upon delivery(so $500 total) becasue of the flaws in the hood I wasnt happy about myself. Dont quote me on the price, as this was months ago, but Singh or you if you know can chime in and correct me if I am wrong.
$150+ in materials, leaves me with 8 hours time to complete the job. R&R on the hood and bumpers alone is 3 hours time, 2.5 hrs paint on hood, +.75 for underside, 1.75 for front bumper, 1.75 for rear bumper, less body work time.
A replacement hood + underside, re-spray both bumpers and grille shell should be a $1200 job panel painted at a normal body shop.

I am not out to bend anyone over, when i make mistakes I have no problem admitting them, and resolving them for the customer.
I wasn’t going to say anything about it on shift or anywhere like this but since it’s brought up I’ll just point out a couple things.
Mike you’re a good dude and I would like to keep a friendship than get caught up and catch any feelings towards you for your work etc.
I know for sure I would personally want to know if anyone I have done work for wasn’t happy or had something to complain about, I hate when people pretend like everything is cool when it isn’t. We all do that a little bit because its awkward otherwise and keeping it “real” isn’t always the most “polite” thing to do. I have done countless jobs and pieces of work for people throughout my lifetime and there is a ton of people who think im awesome and probably a good bunch who think I suck and that i’m lazy (vlad). so it’s cool, i get that and don’t hold nothing agains’t ya, I just personally wouldn’t ever say something like you did in the post jammer quoted.
about the hood
Yeah the hood was honestly horrible, couldn’t of expected worse work from you and I’m so sorry to say that, but I feel more of an idiot that I talked up your work to everyone that asked about paint, even the guy you’re painting a bmw for from schenectady.
BAD shit happens and it is what it is, I totally understand that, it’s all good I still love you and we did find someone else to paint it and its being done as we speak.
Just to make some things clear tho,
the hood was a dark purple to start with, not green. The price was originally 700 that you dropped to 600 after listening to our concerns and complaints about the hood, that was fine no problems at all.
The MAIN things I just have to say is these two things:
I drove the car to your shop before hand so you come and check it out and visually see the work that needed to be done for a more accurate quote. I didn’t know you had different levels of work quality based on price, I thought you understood that I just needed the hood painted to match the car and it thought it was needless to say that it should be done as best you can… No bargaining of the price was done because I didn’t want to potentially mess up the end result by rushing you or making you work for less money, the price was something you came up with and gave to me, which wasn’t a bad price it was okay.
The complaints we had about the hood were never about the color matching, I personally think the color match is ACCEPTABLE, and not too bad, you’ll never match anything perfect without painting the other areas around it and blending it in, we all know and understand this.
The argument and complaints that we had with the job you did on the hood were about the quality of work, the massive sections of orange peel, the unbelievable size of the clear run near the headlight, and IMO the worst, which was unpainted edges of the hood showing black through near the windshield.
That is all, You told us the hood was too big to paint or something, We had no idea the size of the hood would be an issue for you to paint because I’ve seen your work painting whole cars like dave’s eclipse which came out pretty nice… I thought you would of gotten a good idea of the hood’s size when I brought it to you to estimate the job.
I don’t care that it took a lot longer to get done than you originally estimated, from friday to sunday estimated and in actuality it took friday to thursday or something. Whatever, we just hoped the extra time you took was to make sure it was the best it could be.
and lastly, if the price should of been $1200, then you should of quoted it to be $1200, and not 500 bucks under. Yet in the end we paid 600 for a job that is no where near being on the radar of a 1200$ job, so you didn’t “loose” money on this one by quoting it too low, maybe you lost some time, but trust me… so did we.
Out of everything that happened with that, I just don’t understand how you looked at the hood, the end product/result/finish and thought it was GOOD ENOUGH to leave your garage back to the customer. You as a painter, knows better than anyone that the hood was way under standards and that’s what kills me, because I had my rep on the line by strongly and undoubtedly referring your services to someone else just to make me look dumb in the end.
Don’t get it twisted tho you’re still a 10000x better than that redline dude and i never even had to deal with him. I can only imagine. I see you have some of the same problems I do and I already know they have been with you your whole life because they definitely have with me haha and if i’m right you already know what those are so I won’t even knock ya for those
:retardclap :retardclap :retardclap :retardclap :retardclap :retardclap wow BEST WAY NOT TO SOUND STUPID IS NOT TO SAY ANYTHING LOLLLLLL
I wasn’t going to say anything myself until you decide to bring my name into this. (for whatever the reason). I’d like to point out a few things myself since you bring me up.
I don’t you suck or that you’re lazy on the contrary you’re simply too busy and no longer have interest or time for Shift, I understand that which is why you were removed from being an admin and stopped expecting things from you as it was unfair. You’ve said countless times you don’t agree with the policies, don’t have the time nor care any longer.
I thank you for all you’ve done years ago to help the site out and get it to the point where it is. For christ’s sake the layout is build by you as it sits.
The last thing I told you about on the phone is that your part of the server is not going to be renewed as it was separated and I notified you so it wouldn’t be a surprise later with downtime and you’d have plenty of time to take care of things. All I got back is “don’t make me angry”. I left it on that.
Don’t see where you’re getting “suck” and “lazy” from. Those are your words. I always met with you on your schedule even leaving work during my work breaks when I had a window of opportunity and thanked you for any work you’ve done to help me and the site out.
Singh you are my boy absolutely no hard feelings man. You and i both are 100% honest people, and i will never fault someone I respect for telling me I fucked up, becasue that right there is hella respect taken and given.
First off, on the quotes. This has been the downfall for me for YEARS. Just about everyone here who has had me do anything for them knows I undercut the living hell out of myself… And here is why.
I dont have all the money in the world either. When I look at a job, I look at it as if I myself were paying for it.
Case and point, I took a GTI big turbo kit’s intake tube and charge pipe tube for a member here this past weekend that didnt fit for shit, and made it in his words “Better than I could have ever expected”. (Grey GTI that works at Langan)… I made about 6 welds, and used 95% of the materials he had already, and welded in a section off the downpipe to meet the cat back for him. I had 8 hours time in making them perfect, and even powdercoating the tubes under the hood. I didnt charge him for my materials used and only charged him for 4 hours time. $260. I looked at the end results and said if I charged him $540 for those 2 tubes and 6" of exhaust work I would be a rapist. He said that was way less than he figured it would take (260) and he was prepaired to spend alot more. Call that a mistake on my end??? NO. Because now he wants us to tune the car and do alot more.
My point is, I would rather under charge and over accomplish than over charge and under accomplish… ESPECIALLY when its friends, people on here and friends of friends as in the case with Dave. In the case of the blasted hood, I will tell you I was more upset with the quality of my work than you were. I hate, hate, hate under accomplishing. I then find my self re-doing it and I have a hard time blocking out the mistakes and sometimes they lead to more mistakes, as in the hood. Stress managment, yep I need it.
Never the less, everything you stated Dave is 100% true. The flaws you pointed out are not something I would tuck tail and deny. I forgot the hood was purple, my mistake… I knew it was a dark ass color to start though. The hood is easily 6-7 feet tall I bet! and I am only 5’11" LOL. The hood is shot standing up on a stand. And you can exactly put the leading edge of the hood on the ground!.. so shooting the top edge you mentioned was accidentally showing black/purple through was sprayed blind, KK on his tippy toes arm fully extended… SAME with the peel, IRC the peel I couldnt get out was up top there too at the edges. I physically had a hard time doing it! Not excuses, becasue I am not asking for forgiveness for my mistakes… they are explanations so you and others dont think it was a case of “dont give a shit” work ethic.
If you have any pics of the hood, can you post them? I have NO problem showing people the truth.
BMW hood. Absolutely the worst example of me shooting myself in the foot taking on a job EVER. I dont know how else to say it, without being disrespectful to the owner so I will again play the straight up honesty card. The car was trailered to me, becasue the trans wouldnt hardly drive the car. While it was on the lot its the worst condition car we had there, next to a burned up RAM pickup. It had 4 different wheels, steering wheel with no airbag and nothing holding it on the shaft (comes right off in your hands), interior pieces missing, dash exposed, dirty, parts everywhere, every panel has scratches, dents and rust, rather sure it has a blown headgasket, battery was dead and I had to jump it 4 times to move it… Looking at it people asked my why would I even bother painting the hood and bumper? I was asked to was my reply. When I saw it show up, reffered through another friend, I couldnt just tell him to take it away, and i couldnt charge him more than the car was worth to do the job… I was stuck in a hard spot. I initially said get another bumper becasue it was cracked 8" long on one side, then he couldnt find one so we plastic welded it and repaired it, 3 hours of work+. The paint code that came back off the vin was wrong, and when I shot the color it was retarded off… but was still the best part of the car! Never the less, its not right, and re-sprayed it with the right color thankfully the second time and took money off for the time he took to come get it and wasnt happy with the color initially. The end result was BETTER than the entire car, by far… but not perfect. Would i take that hood and put it on a $30K bmw? nope. Would I put it on a $4K bmw, yes thats realistic. Being on a $1500 (after about 1000$ in repairs to get it even drivable) its more than acceptable.
Bottom line is, the Jag hood, and the BMW hood… spawned my “how paint jobs are done” thread… I am NEVER taking on work like that again. Like that Skidplate kid asking me to paint his truck after he does the body work, and I can tell by the kids “I know how to do the work” reply’s which are way off… it would look like shit… and people would only assume “KK painted it”… NO FUCKING WAY is it worth the money to get the half ass results.
Sorry for the book, but I needed to explain myself
Ok so without starting another whole shit show my point all along about howard or aby other shop… People make mistakes we are all human… U guys dont need to like howard or his shop but let him go… He moved away ull never deal with him… Let him make his living anyway he wants without trying to ruin shit… We gotta people in this world who get knocked up every yr just to collect more money that u and i pay in every month…
Just let him go and do him and you guys do u
okay that’s fine, my bad. i just didnt like how It wasn’t even discussed with me, just kinda got online one day and I’m a n00bie pretty gay, that’s my only gripe… everything else is whatever the forum management was going in a direction that i didnt want to be a part of any longer anyways.
I appreciate it, we’re all good man , i’ll see you sometime soon we got exhaust work to do.
thats a good idea, so leave PJB alone and stop embarrassing yourself with the lamest comebacks the internet has ever seen and let him do him… and you do you.
and by the way
makes NO SENSE
holy shit this thread makes my head hurt.
I am this close to + repping you on that reply Slow.
That has been and was EVERYONES point all along. Everyone does make mistakes, but the people that dont learn from them or run from and never accept them is what ALL this drama for the last year has been about: All the shit breaking HT did and no claims, your friend at the gym saying the media was all lies and it wasnt like they said, mustang killer kid’s friends and family saying he didnt do anything wrong… all the same shit.
If we can ALL agree to man up this summer and just cut all the disrespectful petty bullshit, I am all for it. I for one have WAY too much on my plate to deal with getting tossed in the mix being called a 98lb weasle over some posts towards someone 1000 miles away, I never met, and for fucks sake it wasnt even me posting that stuff on n2s.
over and out, if everyone else can be too.
Bottom line u hate howard hate him quietly… U hate kk do it quietly etc etc… These bullshit 10 pages back n forth get ridiculous… The shit with my friend was simple reguardless the mistakes he made he didnt need to be bashed… He lost his life for it punishment enough…
This place could be such a good forum if it wasnt full of all the non sense stuff…
My friends are my friends… If u know im friends with them and u know i come on here leave it off shift then… U wanna bitch about someone text them about it… Lets not do it on shift or anywhere else… Ull never see me start with anyone for no reason… Only time i say shit is when people come back at me…
So future of shift y dont we let the howard tanner, my buddy who died, kk fucked up hood, jay swift being gay and all the other crap go… If a post comes up and we realize someone here is friends with person in post just respect them n drop it… Out of respect for everyone on the site… I just think it would be easier n make coming here more drama free
- repped.
I agree with you entirely. Not sure how you flipped the switch and replied so respectfully above, but you did and the “why” doesnt even matter… and I respect you for that.
Bottom line is I dont try to come across as a know it all, hell I will be the first to tell you all I can be dumb as bricks at times… my long winded responses and book writings are becasue I A: have the time at my day job to do so, an B: care enough about my self respect, others around me and the community I grew up in, live in and will make a family of my own in. The underlining meanings to the rants we all have here I am sure carry much of the same feeling I have.
Its going to be a long, great season this year, one that I for one am very optimistically looking forward to. I have no problem letting the past rot in a cardboard box buried in the yard out back behind the wood shed… See ya all out this summer!
Swifty is gay ???
:rofl
You’d still have no shot with him, so don’t even bother.
Kk I should be registering my car soon… will need you to do work as previously quoted. Also need help finding the leak + replacing seal to prevent same issue from happening again.
Jay swift is wayyy gayyyy…
Makes sence now
10-4 man… any time, will be nice to finally meet you too. :number1
