I tore my flywheel. all 4 bolt holes are now long slots. that bites. so for those of you that herd the car on startup that is what the noise was. the TC and flywheel moving seprately.
you should be very happy you caught that now while you still have your legs
+1
:word:
Anything else damaged?
+2, unless you had an external shield… but i doubt it… sorry about that
Better have someone TIG weld reenforcement tabs on a new factory flywheel. It will work fine
Interesting. The only time I have seen a flexplate elongate like that is from the bolts not being tight. Did you use Red Loctite when installing them?
tranny is now on the floor of the garage
flexplate is destroyed, the slots are over an inch long each, and the T/C lugs wore 1/2 way thru the flexplate
the flexplate also took a good amount of material off the lugs on the T/C, 2 of the bolts fell out completely, the 3rd one backed out to the point that it hit the starter and snapped off, 4th bolt was backed out some, but broke off during removal
the T/C has to go the company that produces them (VI? PI?) for whatever it will take to fix it …
donno if they are going to remachine the lugs and supply spacer washers, maybe they will machine off the old lugs and weld new ones on, or if they are just going to cut the case open and swap the internals to a new case
turn around time MIGHT be a week… we shall see
no idea on cost yet either … FPS is going to attempt to get it covered uner warranty (yes they know the truth about what happened)
pics will be up later
well we did set a new personal reccord and had the tranny out in less than 10 hours. but yeah that does suck about the damage.
u should be happy ur getting tq
TURBOSHO FTW
haha
improper toque + vibration = bolts falling out
i think one backed out almost completely first , and the rest slowly followed suit. i say this because i remember hearing a loud bang at one point that was most likely the one TC bolt that hit the starter and snapped, and that was long before the knock noise ever started
thats my guess. FPS is filing this as a warranty claim but i think once they see it i’m sure they will charge me for a case (which is bilit $$$) i imagine it will be around 400-600 for the repair.
Not normally
So… higher stall then.
x2
i dont’ need a higher stall, once its tuned it should build boost decently.
How about changing your title of this thread to something more descriptive? That way when someone wants to actually use the search engine to find “what happens when your torque converter and flywheel move separately” they’ll actually find something.
