Did the Toronto mudder acouple weekends ago on the 11th, awesome experience all around. The weather was definitely half the battle, mentally and physically it took a huge toll. When I ran it the temp was around the 10-11 degree mark (50 Fahrenheit), first obstacle was the arctic enema, (a plunge into and under ice water) then in and out of cold water another 12 or so times through out the run. It got old, and really had to dig to keep going to keep my muscles from cramping and spasming from temperature shocks but gawd damn when we got that beer at the finish line it felt damnnn good.
Definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to challenge themselves and have a blast doing it, I’m even considering getting a bigger team together and doing it again this September. Training a few months in advanced minimum is a definitely wise idea.
Too bad they didn’t put that ice water plunge at the end. After a hard 100 mile bike ride, I always take a dunk in my tub filled with cold water and 2 of the big bags of ice and just relax in it for 5 minutes. It makes the muscles feel great afterwards.
heres a video of my group, we were team “sequestered” (we’re all gov’t employees)
The course was 11 miles over two mountains, it sucked ass (the hills atleast) sometimes you had to walk because the hills were so steep.
we did it in about 2.5 hours… if you watch the very last obstacal, where you run through the wires, you can see me (i’m one of the two with a mohawk) I got a live wire to the neck and I ate shit HARD towards the end of the gauntlet. Those wires are no joke, if they catch you in a big muscle group, you seize up and eat mud.
I thought this was a good idea… but, prior to the race, i stopped in a po dunk town and had pancakes and biscuts&gravy… at mile 6, i SHIT MY BRAINS out…
so after shitting everything out of my stomach… after the race I slammed a nice Dos Equis dark beer, and then drank my buddies who doesn’t drink… and then flipped a tire a bunch of times, and got 3 more beers for free… 5 beers on an empty/upset stomach, was the worst feeling ever… on the 5 hour drive home, i farted atleast 100 times
Don’t blame beer for your terrible nutritional choices. lol
I have had beer after every 1/2 and full marathon I have ran with no issue. I usually eat a bagel plain untoasted with nothing on it before a race. I try for two but nerves always get the best of my appetite before a full.
This weekend I rode dirtbikes, went boating, had steaks, many beers and put about 1000 rounds total through 8 different guns with some of my best friends and family but if this is your idea of a good time… Have at it
