agreed. this has nothing to do with reliablity. it has to do with a faulty made part. once fixed these cars will outlast ford/gm like always.
Its amazing what one recall can do to public perception, though this is a huge recall. We recently took in a few Toyotas to sell as used cars and now can’t even get someone the slighest bit interested in them due to this recall.
Same thing happened to Audi in the 70s(?). There were all these reports of people starting the car and they would go out of control and take off. Turns out people were starting the car with their foot on the gas, which is why automatic cars now require you to have your foot on the brake to get it in gear (and why Audi’s still have giant retard proof instructions on the dash for it). Still, it hurt their reputation big time for awhile.
It will take a while for Toyota to recover from this, after they fix the issue of course, considering how much ppl have to come to expect from them.

Correct. Brakes are typically have their braking force or “power” rated in horsepower , and most OEM braking systems have 3-4 times the power of the drivetrain in terms of horsepower. So your average 500hp sport coupe will have a braking system rated at least 1500-2000hp.
It’s why I shake my head every time I hear about an accident regarding stuck throttles and the driver stating not being able to stop :facepalm.
I don’t know a WHOLE LOT about cars… but it makes sense to me whether the vehicle’s throttle is to the floor or not that if you want to stop, you push the break and if it doesn’t work… pull the E-break. Isn’t that why it’s there?! lol

If your pedal gets stuck…can’t you just forcefully turn the car off? Sure that may cause more problems, but it would bring the car to a stop? Or put the car into neutral? Let the engine blow itself up while you coast down and get the hell out?

That’s another thing to do too… put it into neutral and when it slows down enough throw it in park? Sure, you’re gonna fuck up the Tranny but… you’re still alive the next day.
Why would you throw it in park? If you put it in neutral you can just brake and shut off the car instead of destroying your transmission.
