Track day miata build

Huh???

His ex wife is the prior owner of the car. His wife left him for another woman. He would laugh seeing the car turn into a gaymobile.

Dildo shifter and Neon Green roll bars is a huge thumbs up from me

truth^^^^^

Joe…you and I…beers sometime soon.

Started stripping the interior today and found a couple surprises. I pulled a bolt access panel off of a trim piece and found 2 presents inside. This is behind the head unit.

Oh whats this? I hope its something valuable like meth or cocaine.

Cocaine filled? Maybe? Please?

What about this one…hmmmm

Jason, I can mail these back to their owner if youd like.

Furthermore, I am starting to debate painting the car. I already have the paint and other supplies from a past project that never worked out, so it wouldnt really cost me anything but time. This would be the color. Not sure how much time i want to put into making it look nice vs. just a ratty track car.

Um wow.

When I resto-detailed this car more than a year ago, with all the disassembly that was done with Jason to sharpen the car back up and clean everything… I honestly can’t believe I missed that tampon.

I genuinely feel inadequate now…

I’m just completely amused right now. Yeah, we tore that thing down fairly comprehensively to do the detail work, but it looks like you got the surprise.

Mike…you can make it up on the shop wagon. Kidding!

Finally got some time to do some more work.

Started prepping for the landing plates for the main hoop. Need to burn out the rest of the seam sealer. I still need to figure out of I need to remove the rear seat brackets, as the cage instructions say you dont but I am not sure you can keep them with the sidemount brackets. The landing plate lays directly on top of the edge of that bracket, so this is a decision I need to make before I even start welding of the cage.

Spot drilled all of the welds for the front seat mount. (both sides).

Removed.

Shes a mess.

Plan for tomorrow is to get it on the lift and do the transmission tunnel notching to fit the seats, and hopefully get the seat mounted.

Finally got around to mounting the tires today as I had to wait for the lift.

Anyone who does their own tire mounting NEEDS to get this stuff-- its almost like wax, but it makes tires go on like butter.

Rolled the fenders. Had some technical issues with the roller but after 3 hours, got it done.

Got the tunnel notch fabbed up. I suck at welding so I just tacked it and having someone else do it at a later date.

I didnt get time to get a tank of 100% argon so I ended up choosing mig instead of tig. Still came out pretty good. Big thanks to chris for welding this all up for me  The floor pan has ridges so I had to fab up some filler pieces to get a 360 degree weld on the bottom plate.

Main hoop and rear bars fitted.

Its rubbing on the hardtop, so it must be a pretty tight fit. The main hoop has to be angled 9 degrees-- let me tell you how much fun that is when you dont have the correct tool for it.

Looks good

that grey with a bright colored roll cage would look sick. great build so far

I decided im not painting the car…at least this year-- just not enough time to do everything I want since with the weather, the tracks have opened already.

Finish this and sell it to me.

Im interested in seeing how well this prefabbed cage fits, looks pretty good so far. Welding all this together in a vert makes life so much easier. I am tig welding a cage in my car and it is no fun at all.

Is this just going to be for track days or are you planning on actually racing it?

Build one yourself! Once all my parts are ordered ill be just under 10 grand all said and done. You can use some cheaper parts and get well under that.

The cage fits well because its not 100% pre-fabbed. You still need to cut to length to get the tightest fit. My main hoop actually rubs on the hardtop in the corners.

I am building it for track days/hpde and maybe TT down the road. No wheel to wheel unless I win the lottery. This cage, when built correctly to the instructions, passes both SCCA and NASA cage requirements.

Still trying to decide on what color to paint the cage.

Main hoop back is welded in completely.

In the mail-
Coilovers
ARP lugs
Forged open ended lug nuts
Energy Suspension Poly bushing set (as well as zerks)
R-package tie rod ends
clutch master cyl w/ ss line
SS brake lines
RBF 600
Aluminum valve stems
RB front swaybar

Are you going to put a passenger seat in this?

I am, eventually. Given the extra $1k cost, it will wait until the car is ready for the track before i spend that money.

Will it fit with the way the harness bar is on the passenger side?
